Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Built Heritage specialist to join our heritage team, comprising experts in both building assessment and technical delivery within the planning process. We are looking for an experienced and motivated candidate who will fit into our established team of experts and be able to undertake work with colleagues across AECOM’s diverse disciplines.

We are a friendly team that work closely together, but we are specifically looking to join our southern based colleagues. You will be located in one of our southern offices (Basingstoke, Bristol, Cambridge or Croydon), but will be expected to work on projects throughout the UK.

We work on a number of varied and high-profile projects, you will, therefore, be given the opportunity to work on both large and small-scale projects across a diverse range of schemes. We are looking for someone at senior level so you will be expected to bring to your projects a good working knowledge of historic buildings and areas, and be experienced in historic building analysis and conservation planning.

You will provide expert advice to internal and external clients and deliver technical reporting including Initial Appraisals, Heritage Statements and EIA to programme and budget. You will also be expected to be able to input into masterplanning and provide design advice on a range of projects. AECOM currently work on a number of public and private frameworks and you will be expected to maintain our reputation for high quality work. You will need enthusiasm and an excellent attitude to client and stakeholder communication to create your own portfolio of projects. Fully qualified scientist. Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

*

Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.

*

Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

*

Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.

*

Solves problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

*

Participates in planning required to achieve prescribed objectives.

*

Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources.

*

Performs inspections and tests to ensure compliance.

*

Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures. Formulates hypothesis, performs research and makes recommendation.

Minimum Requirements

The post will entail:

*

Preparing Heritage Statements.

*

Inputting to planning documents including Design Codes and Neighbourhood Plans.

*

Working with design teams to input into masterplans for new sites and existing client portfolios

*

Consultation and liaison with stakeholders via telephone, Microsoft Teams and via on site meetings.

*

Working independently and taking responsibility for programmes of work and producing high quality reports.

*

Liaising effectively with managers, consultants from other disciplines as required.

Candidate Requirements:

To be successful in this role we are looking for the following:

*

Client focused team player with a positive attitude and ability to work with diplomacy and collaborate effectively;

*

Professional, organised and thorough approach to work which demonstrates an attention to detail to get things right first time;

*

Ability to manage own time and comfortable working both within a team or alone to tight deadlines;

*

Detailed knowledge of UK heritage legislation and policy;

*

Detailed knowledge of architectural history across a range building types;

*

Experience in costing and project management;

*

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;

*

Full UK driving licence;

*

Flexible approach to working hours to meet the demands of the role, including potential working away from home.

Preferred Qualifications

*

A relevant first degree and/or post-graduate qualification in conservation or a related subject;

*

Appropriate level of membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists or Institute of Historic Building Conservation.
