Global Technology Infrastructure (GTI) is the technology infrastructure organization for the Firm, delivering a wide range of products and services, and partnering with all lines of business to provide high quality service delivery, exceptional project execution and financially disciplined approaches and processes in the most cost effective manner.

This Architecture role is to work across the Platform Services Organization to help modernize the data services to a common runtime. That runtime will be a kubernetes based system. The existing services will be setup and configured in a variety of ways. The main requirement from this role is to help converge the key services such as Cassandra, Kafka, Database, Hadoop, Splunk etc to a common hardware and software stack. A separate team is building a common control plane. The requirement of this role is to make this conversion a success, ensuring all these services are making the most use of the Kubernetes plant, and are built to scale. The way in which the services are leveraging the common control plane v service specific requirements is critical. The main focus on this role is ensuring we can scale, manage the services, engineer each for management and automation.

Primary responsibilities:

o Very deep technology expert, who can work across modern workloads (such as described above) which are stateful

o Engineering and delivering a service which is fully automated

o Delivering automated cross functional failover

o Knowing the value of a control plane, what they are meant to do

o Knows the most important aspects of a service to get right to scale

o Designing in the capabilities so SRE functions can work against the service as well as we can be dynamic

o Ensuring the right monitoring and telemetry is in each service

o Ensuring the services can be put on Kubernetes so as much as possible is consistent across those services

Soft skills/attributes required for this role:

* Real technical credibility from deep knowledge/understanding of some of the most challenging requirements

* Able to handle quirky technical SMEs without destroying relationships

* Experience working closely with Senior Application architects

* Takes accountability for a major initiative

* Credible and mature personality, with some presence

* Concise communicator - able to translate detail into a concise story, getting immediately to the punch line

* Self-starter, motivated - wants to get in, roll sleeves up and make a difference

Hard Skills / Requirements:

* Engineering Degree in a technical discipline or similar experience

* Distributed – Server/Storage, Hypervisor, Market Data rate publication

* Distributed – Database, Web, Messaging, Load Balancing, Ports, Firewalls, Java

Broad base technical knowledge covering - Critical:

* A major programming language (C/C++/Java/J2EE/AngularJS)

* Network Programming (sockets/RPC) and HTML5

* Knowledge of multi-processing and multi-threading, eCommerce / portal design elements

* Understanding Active/Active, Recovery methodologies at Disk and DB layers

* Application, Middleware and Web services such as WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat, XML and SOAP

* Proven experience working with culturally diverse and geographically distributed teams

* Experience working through an application lifecycle from start to finish including Agile development methodologies

* Experience troubleshooting a project gone wrong and working to fix it, adjusting to major scope/design change

* Experience working within large global organization and building and maintaining a global network – financial industry experience desired

* Demonstrated ability establishing credibility with Application Development teams, along with presenting to and influencing senior management

* Effective Project and Program Management skills
