Vacancy: Senior Analytical Scientist

Location: Cambridge

Job Family: R&D.

We are looking for an experienced Analytical Scientist to join our Life Sciences Technology Development team within our state-of-the-art laboratories in Cambridge. In this role you would be responsible providing comprehensive analytical support to the LST Cambridge team in the delivery of services to customers and in the development of complex organometallic catalysts for pharmaceutical, agrochemical, F&F and fine chemical customers, with particular focus on NMR spectroscopy.

In this role, you would gain exposure to and work collaboratively with all teams in LST and have opportunities for customer interaction. This is a unique role with development opportunities and where you will see the impact of your contributions to our vision for a world that's cleaner and healthier; today and for future generations.

Key responsibilities:

* Provide high quality analytical support to the team, supporting the analytical workflow from definition of intermediates and product specifications to in-process and QC analysis, working with development and manufacturing teams, QA function, Product Managers and external suppliers.

* Preparation and data analysis of analytical samples.

* Provide high calibre NMR expertise for routine and QC analysis, identification and quantification of impurities, definition of specifications, in-process analysis.

* Provide support in chromatographic analytical techniques (HPLC, UPLC, GC, MS method development, qualitative and quantitative analysis, specifications definition of intermediates and products.

* Develop LC/GC/SFC/NMR analytical methods for QC analysis of intermediates and products, as required.

* Write procedures and technical documentation, taking an active role in the promotion of quality and compliance.

* Prepare and review the analytical section of Technical Transfer Documents for internal use and for external suppliers.

* Support Group R&D team teams as required with method development, structure elucidation and troubleshooting.

* Ensure adequate maintenance of assigned analytical equipment, coordinating and supervising engineer visits.

* Ensure that analytical documentation is maintained in conformance with regulatory and quality requirements

Are you the ideal candidate?

* BSc or Equivalent in a Chemistry or a related scientific discipline (or equivalent industrial experience)

* Extensive knowledge and experience of 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR with knowledge or experience of HPLC, GC, MS, SFC, polarimetry and KF is advantageous

* Strong trouble-shooting skills with an ability to implement innovative and practical solutions.

* Effective communicator with excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate technical information to a diverse audience

* Attention to detail and focus on quality with excellent analytical and verbal/written reporting and presentation skills

* Ability to foster productive and inspiring working relationships with peers and across the JM organisation
