Security Systems Engineer - London or Bath

What's the opportunity?

Do you want to work on a global portfolio of projects with world-class architectural partners and design teams? We are looking for a self-driven Security Engineer to join our Security team in the UK.

You'll be delivering security design and consultancy as part of single and multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects in the UK and internationally, encompassing sports stadia, entertainment and performance venues, world-class higher education facilities, transport hubs, and more.

You will be client-facing and and on a day to day basis cover security consultancy, design, project management, business development, and even R&D.

We are looking for candidates that can work collaboratively and exploit the diverse skills and knowledge which exist in our business to drive their career forward.

Security can only be truly effective when people, processes and systems all operate in harmony. Our multidisciplinary capability ensures that electronic and physical elements combine sympathetically with the client vision; a risk-based approach produces strategies and mitigation that are appropriate, proportionate and financially viable.

BuroHappold’s Security group provide consultative services to clients in order to develop and protect the built environment. We typically support our clients through security planning and strategy, physical security, security technologies and design, to ensure developments and their surroundings are safe, secure and functional. In addition, we provide advice in solution procurement and implementation during and beyond construction to provide clients with a comprehensive range of services.

The team's project work spans multiple sectors including education, cultural, stadia, commercial, airports, mixed use and government. We work to support clients and design teams across the world.

We’re also active in R&D in areas that improve our approach to design within the built environment (e.g. building information modelling, SMART building, IoT, etc.), and in keeping abreast of the latest emerging technologies and their potential for our clients.

Be Challenged

With us, your preconceptions will be tested, your resilience built, and your career enriched.

Joining our friendly, close-knit team, this is an ideal role for an Engineer or Senior Engineer level candidate with security systems design experience.

Your daily responsibilities will be highly varied, but can typically be expected to comprise...

* Design and specification of security systems within buildings - e.g. CCTV, Access Control, Intruder Detection, etc.

* Co-ordinating engineering delivery for a range of security projects

* Preparing Technical Specifications

* Assuming project and resource management responsibility where appropriate

* Ensuring senior staff are kept informed of important and relevant service/design decisions and the objectives of the client are achieved.

* Inputting into and revising Security project delivery standards and processes as and when required

* Actively working towards professional registration with a relevant institution.

* Mentorship and support to more junior graduates and interns.

Be Respected

We’ll help you meet your goals, respecting your ideas and fostering your creativity, collaboration and innovation.

In return, we'd expect you to demonstrate the following...

* You will have been working in a design role with experience of designing security systems in the built environment.

* You will have an understanding of the design process and approach to designing security systems (CCTV, AACS, IDS, PIDS, SMS), specifically being able to identify critical considerations and factors in design.

* Worked in Autodesk tools such as AutoCAD, Navisworks and Revit

* Experience authoring technical security specifications on projects

* You will have a good knowledge of standards applicable to security and related systems.

* You will be able to clearly communicate concepts of security design and the rational which form the basis of a design.

* Ideally – a knowledge of basic coding (C#), which can be applied to the development of design tools to facilitate automation.

Qualifications:

Typically engineers we recruit have studied security or technology related degrees, such as the following (though similar courses will be considered):

* Electrical Engineering

* Electronic Engineering

* Systems and Communications Engineering
