About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Section Engineer Secondary Lining to join our Major Projects team to work in Hinkley Marine Works.

Role Purpose:

* Manage all safety issues on site;
* Act as the Emergency Persons in Charge for the shift;
* Supervise the SCL/TBM/Secondary Lining shift works;
* Working on an 8hr shift pattern Monday to Friday (Days, Backs, Nights).

What you'll be doing

As a Section Engineer you will:

* Demonstrate and lead the shift in commitment to safe working;
* Manage the programme on a weekly basis;
* Ensure that materials plant and equipment are orders in and managed;
* Planning and programming of the works;
* To be fully familiar with spray concrete lining / TBM works /Secondary Lining sufficient to undertake the role of Section Engineer;
* Weekly working rota of 8-hour shift pattern Monday Sunday, Days, Backs and Nights;
* Supervision of tunnel shift engineer;
* Alignment control on tunnel drive;
* Preparation / review of Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Inspection and Test Plans;
* Maintain good working relations with client / designer, together with our supply chain;
* Attend the RESS Meetings daily to discuss SCL /TBM/Secondary Lining activity / actions with the designer, client, geotechnical engineers, surveyors;
* Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay;
* Communicate with Pit Boss and Lead Miners to ensure full understanding of information provided such as RESS and Shift Briefing, POWRA.

Who we're looking for

Personal Qualities and Experience:

* Full experience of SCL/TBM/Secondary Lining works;
* Experience of face logging to BS 5930;
* Experience of shift work;
* Ability to manage shift engineers and operatives;
* Experience of maintaining good relations with designer and client;
* Government legislation and Company policy on all matters relating to safety and environment;
* Thorough knowledge of construction procedures and working methods;
* Able to support learning & institution recognition for others as delegated engineer;
* Ability to contribute to the design, development, construction, commissioning or maintenance of civil engineering products, equipment, processes, systems or services;
* Knowledge of the procedures and methods for testing site materials, understanding the requirements of any laboratory, and have the ability to perform the role of testing engineer;
* Understand specified tolerances for work activities in progress;
* Complete detailed checklists for each work activity, if required;
* Ability to interpret drawings correctly and check for error.
