Description of the job

We're looking for a System Design Authority within Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth. You will join Terminals group.

Your purpose as a System Design Authority (SDA) is to lead and integrate the engineering aspects of large and complex Terminals projects. You will provide the primary technical interface for all the project activities with the customer, subcontractors and internal Engineering Teams.

You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check) in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Ensure that designs are adequate and meet the customer requirement
- Ensure that design reviews run in a quality manner and contribute to the engineering process
- Ensure that the specialist engineering resources are properly deployed and used on the project
- Ensure that Verification and Qualification activities are conducted in a traceable manner (to the customer requirement)
- Establish the design requirements and ensure that design output records accurately reflect the design basis.
- Manage design control and ultimate technical adequacy of the design solution.
- Ensure that the design requirements and design records are fully identified and configured following business configuration management requirements and current best practice
- Lead design activities, e.g. those associated with design analysis and calculations.
- Approval authority for system design documentation
- Primary Interface into 3S Support Organisation for the nominated product, sub-system or domain

Your role will involve some travel for business so you will required travel accordingly.

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the company's success, reputation and sustainable growth.

Required skills

We are looking for applicants with the following skills and experience:
- Experience managing engineering projects with large teams
- Background in Terminals engineering highly desirable; experience in related technologies such as Satellite Communications Systems, Signals, RF, High Speed Digital Technologies, Digital Signal Processing, Microprocessors and software development essential
- Comfortable managing activities associated with, stakeholder needs, system requirements, architecture and design definition, system analysis, integration, validation, maintenance and disposal
