Science and Engineering Industrial Placement 2021

A career that will deliver change. Together, we can help Britain achieve net zero.

During your placement you’ll be looking to make an impact – using your skills, knowledge and passion to achieve great things. So how about taking on the challenge of beating climate change?

Being Britain’s biggest generator of low carbon electricity, EDF are not only talking about climate change, we’re doing something about it. We’re committed to reducing carbon emissions to zero, generating power from clean sources like wind, nuclear and solar, leading the charge for electric vehicles and investing in new carbon cutting technologies.

We proudly work together to champion a low carbon lifestyle and collaborate widely in our search for innovations to achieve more. Build your future with us. Share our vision. Together we’ll help Britain achieve net zero.

The Opportunity:

From working on radiological protection to maintaining chemistry control and safety in our nuclear power stations; designing electrical systems to improving safety or operations, we offer a diverse and fascinating range of 12 month industrial placements.

Taking on a real job at a junior level, you'll have the opportunity to learn through hands-on experience under the guidance of highly skilled and experienced colleagues.

Most of what you learn will be on the job, with support from your mentor and the teams you work in. Some industrial placements come with opportunities for further technical training as needed.

At telephone interview stage, you will be given the option to state three location preferences from the below. We will match successful applicants to placements taking location preference in to consideration together with your degree discipline and business needs.

The Location:

You’ll be based at one of our Nuclear Power Stations or one of our offices across the UK.

Placements are available at:

* Barnwood Office, Gloucester.

* Hartlepool Nuclear Power Station.

* Heysham 1 Nuclear Power Station.

* Heysham 2 Nuclear Power Station.

* Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Station.

* Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station.

* Torness Nuclear Power Station.

It’s worth noting that we don’t offer relocation help for Industrial Placements. So if the placement you’re applying for isn’t in your local area, you’ll need to be able to cover the cost of moving to and living there yourself.

The Future:

After you’ve completed your industrial placement, you should know for sure whether you want to be part of the UK’s energy future. If all goes well, we hope to see you back at EDF after university, on one of our graduate programmes.

The Skills:

The successful candidate will demonstrate good communication skills and a willingness to learn. They will have an ability to interact within a team environment, display professionalism within a work setting and have both a questioning and challenging attitude. Of key importance is a willingness to get involved with various tasks, and provide support as required.

Essential skills:

* Studying for an engineering or science degree relevant to your chosen placement (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control and Instrumentation, Aerospace Engineering, Materials, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Maths)

* On track to achieve or will have already achieved a 2:1 undergraduate degree or 2:2 postgraduate qualification

* Technical and analytical skills

* Business acumen

* Lots of initiative and good people skills

* Desire to learn and develop new skills

Compensation & Benefits:

* £16,500 salary

* Generous holiday allowance

* Product and service discounts

* Wellbeing and support services
