Vacancy: Sampling Technician - Battery Materials Pilot Plant

Johnson Matthey currently have an exciting opportunity for a Sampling Technician to join their Battery Materials Pilot Plant in Billingham. The successful job holder will be part of the Pilot Plant team working alongside process technicians, engineers and scientists to enable the manufacturing of samples to stringent quality requirements.

The Sampling Technician will support Pilot Plant operations by coordinating and executing production QC sampling programmes.

Key responsibilities

* Sampling of Nickel-based lithium-ion battery cathode materials, intermediates and raw materials for routine QC analysis. This will involve handling of hazardous, atmosphere-sensitive powders, crystals and solutions;

* Working to, and continuously developing, operating procedures within their area, as well as safety documentation and processes;

* Uphold a strong working relationship with Applications analytical team, and other key stakeholders, to achieve desired data turnaround;

* Handling, organisation and documentation of large amounts of production QC data;

* Communication of plant data and analysis with key members of the Pilot Plant team, and other co-located technology platform teams, as required;

* Flagging and troubleshooting potential ‘out of spec’ results, including support of root cause analysis programmes;

* Contribute and adhere to Quality Systems, including rigorous change management;

* Support the Customer Services team with the production of key sampling documentation and coordination of materials, engaging with other business functions;

* Adjust to new systems, processes, people as the organisation grows and becomes more structured, and more formal procedures are being put in place;

* Seek to continuously improve the efficiency and quality of pilot plant production sampling and associated documentation and processes;

* Speak up on safe working practices and process safety, proactively pursuing the improvement of standard operating procedures and safety processes;

* Proactively contribute to the collection and communication of process learning from the Pilot Plant;

* Working closely with the Senior Quality Scientist (Pilot Plant), Process Technicians and Analytical scientists in achieving a successful production sampling regime. This will involve the management and monitoring of all production QC data and communication of this to relevant stakeholders;

* Assisting the Process Support Technician in continuous improvement workstreams, ensuring that excellent standards of EHS and housekeeping are adhered to at all times.

Are you the ideal candidate?

You will have/be:

* Previous experience in power technologies in pilot, or laboratory scale operating environments, which are subject to change would be highly desirable;

* A stringent attitude to working safely and maintaining high standards in the working environment;

* Delivery focussed to business-critical timescales and able to work under pressure;

* A proactive approach to achieving excellent quality standards;

* A Strong communicator and team player;

* Good attention to detail and focus on quality of delivery.
