Safety Engineer (Highways) – Local Government - Hertfordshire

About the Role:

WSP are working with Hertfordshire County Council as a single, integrated team called the ‘Whole Client Service’. This truly collaborative approach sees WSP and Hertfordshire colleagues working side by side to collectively deliver the full highways service to local communities.

Join us as an Engineer in the Highway Safety Team and you’ll be part of a team that undertakes collision analysis and the promotion of engineering treatments, in line with Hertfordshire County Council’s (HCC) standards, to reduce the frequency and severity of personal injury collisions in Hertfordshire.

The team undertakes Road Safety Audits for a range of different project types, namely; Major, Integrated Transport, Development Management and Highways Locality. The county has 4,500km of roads including both urban and rural environments.

Furthermore the team acts as a partner of the Hertfordshire Safety Camera Partnership and has the role of managing/ upgrading the existing camera sites and reviewing the need for new locations.

This is a great opportunity to join a busy and specialist team.

A typical week would include:

* Assisting with Road Safety Audits of Highway projects

* Undertaking analysis of personal injury collision data

* Engaging with numerous teams across the highways service

* Preparing preliminary designs of collision reduction interventions

* Degree or HNC/HND qualification in a relevant discipline.

* Experience in highway engineering, construction or design.
