Job description/Person specification

We are looking for someone to join our team of RF, Radar and Communications Technicians based within the Radio Trials Centre (RADEX) facility. As a RADEX operator you will support ground and airborne testing of aircraft communication, radio navigation, radar, electronic warfare and other Radio Frequency (RF) based systems. The role offers the opportunity to develop technical competencies in the use of RF test equipment, test and analytical methods, use of aircraft Mode 4 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) and the RADEX Automated Data Acquisition System (RADAS). The role will require development of competencies to allow cross-skilling into other parts of the RF Design, Test and Evaluation Group such as supporting Radio Frequency Environment Generator (REG) and Anechoic Test Factility (ATF) operations.

Key Accountabilities:

You will be responsible for:

• Supporting RADEX, REG and ATF trials;
• Supply of trials data to internal customers (e.g. Trials Engineers) and external customers;
• Attendance at pre-flight briefings for military flight trials requiring authoritative and confidence communications;
• Supporting facility maintenance and calibration activities.

You will be joining a team who often support trials in a pressurised environment. You will be required to be sufficiently organised to support data acquisition and recording during flight trials and be able to effectively communicate and make instant decisions in support of such trials. You will generate and deliver evidence through a broad range of laboratory measurements for both military and civilian customers.

Essential education, Qualifications and training:

• Electrical/Electronic/RF/Communication Engineering Qualification, e.g. HNC or suitable experience such as a recognised apprenticeship;
• Full UK driving licence (manual).

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

• Knowledge/understanding of RF Test and Measurement Techniques;
• A high standard of computer literacy, e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel.

Essential Personal Qualities and Behavioural Requirements:

• Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision;
• Organised and methodical work ethic;
• Professional attitude to both internal and external customers;
• Good problem solving abilities;
• Able to analyse trials data;
• Ability to work deliver to time, cost and quality;
• Open, honest and enthusiastic team member;
• Good written and verbal communication skills;
• Willingness to travel to external customer sites, as required.

Desirable Criteria:

• Knowledge of military aircraft avionic systems;
• Driving licence trailer towing class.
• Working and Height/tower climbing qualified/trained
• CAA Ground radio Operator licence
• Elevated Platform “Cherry Picker” operator Licence

The successful applicant must be eligible for high level security clearance.
