What is the purpose of the role?

As the regional operations manager for the Thames Valley, you will be accountable for the efficient management of a range of operational teams to ensure the delivery of 4 million customer's sewerage services on a daily basis. Performance managing and engaging with the regional teams, you will be responsible for ensuring that our customers receive excellent service at all times and that all our activities on the network are undertaken in a safe and controlled manner.You will ensure that our waste network is running smoothly, with the aim of protecting our customers' homes from flooding. An important aspect of the role will be to co-ordinate with other operational teams to create conditions that will enable the department to outperform its Outcome Delivery Incentives (ODIs) which includes sewer flooding incidents and pollutions.

This role will give you the autonomy and accountability for managing your regional operations teams to lead them through change initiatives, managing a commercial contract as well as ensuring strict Health & Safety standards. This role offers both commercial and operational activities, whilst directly managing a team of 5 and indirectly managing circa 150 field based teams including contractors. What will this role involve?

Managing a highly performing team, you will be responsible for:

Performance managing the delivery of operational activity across your region.

Attend performance meetings with senior internal and external stakeholders.

Maintenance and development of the commercial contract with a third party works provider.

Lead on weekly contractor performance meetings.

Respond to emergency events within your region as required.

Embedding a culture of LEAN thinking and learning from failure.

Meeting and exceeding tight financial targets whilst maintaining quality.

Fostering relationships with the communities that are served within the region.

Responsibility for promoting a continuous improvement culture that has a sustainable strategic impact on both Operational and wider business performance.

Writing and delivering business strategies, identifying and implementing new processes and practices, improving customer experience and developing teams.

This role will includes a compulsory out of hour's rota.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking an experienced manager with exceptional leadership skills. You will have managed large operational and geographically dispersed teams previously and must be confident communicating at all levels of an organisation. Previous demonstrable experience Lean working methods would be highly advantageous. If you have previous experience within the water or waste water industry this would be highly advantageous however not essential. Knowledge and experience with Health Safety management (NEBOSH is preferred). You will be able to demonstrate expertise to manage operational matters within tightly controlled budgets and have the ability to drive a wide-ranging programme of change. You will have excellent presentation and interpersonal skills; and an ability to develop teams and drive staff performance.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is based at Kidlington Depot or potentially at another Thames Valley site based on the candidate's base location. We are offering a salary of £50,000 to £65,000 dependant on skills and experience. On top of our competitive salary package, you will also receive a competitive bonus, car allowance, private healthcare and an industry leading pension scheme. We also offer 2 paid volunteering days per year.
