Building the present, creating the future

The Transpennine Route Upgrade Project (TRU) is a circa £2b multi-disciplinary project upgrading the existing railway route between Manchester and Leeds through the Pennines. It is the largest rail and infrastructure project in the north of England over the next 5 years.

BAM work as part of the Transpire Alliance structure with Amey, Arup and Network Rail, meaning we all have Alliance facing roles as well as undertaking our BAM responsibilities.

We require a QS to join the team working out of project and site offices in Manchester, with site based requirements across the Transpennine route.

Your mission

• Maintain effective communications with all disciplines within the Alliance and the BAM business.
• Manage, supervise and mentor junior staff members within commercial structure.
• Subcontract Procurement – produce subcontract enquiry documentation, issue tender enquiries, analyse tenders and compile subcontract order documents for execution
• Commercial management of subcontractors including timely processing of payments, obtaining final account agreements, and resolving disputed issues by negotiation, if appropriate
• Assist with the production of monthly / quarterly reports including CVRs and cash flow and supporting the application for payment process
• Regularly obtain, review and archive all site records relating to your subcontract packages/section of works including labour and plant allocations, site diaries, photographs and record sheets.
• Understand and promote usage of Company Procedures and suggest improvements to senior management.

Who are we looking for?

Necessary:
• Previous experience on civil engineering scheme
• Formal relevant qualification – Degree
• Good communication skills
• Good IT skills
• Collaborative attitude
• Experience of NEC / ICC form of Contract
Advantageous:
• Experience of target price contracts
• Line management / mentoring experience
• Holds or working towards professional accreditation with CICES or RICS
