Apprenticeship Programme - September 2020
Over the course of your apprenticeship, you will work full-time in an Apprentice Quantity Surveying role for Murphy Group, where you will be a key member of your assigned project team on site. You will learn how to become responsible for the costing planning element of a construction project with the support of chartered, experienced Quantity Surveyors.
As an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor with Murphy Group you'll learn how to manage all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. You'll seek to minimise the cost of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. This includes ensuring statutory building regulations are met. You'll prepare estimates and costs of the work and when the project is in progress, you'll keep track of any variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to show profitability.
If you’re looking to be involved in cost planning with a construction or house building company, this is the ideal apprenticeship for you. You’ll study a strong core of technology, law, contracts, and project management. We’ll make sure that you understand measurement and cost management too, as these are essential skills for quantity surveyors.
Your responsibilities will increase throughout the duration of the apprenticeship programme as your skills and technical knowledge develop, and you will be supported throughout by your assigned workplace mentor, in conjunction with you university apprenticeship tutor, to ensure you gain the right mix of skills and experience to successfully complete your apprenticeship programme.

Who do we look for?
We need grafters who’ll get stuck into the job. Sometimes things get tough. There are lots of ups and downs in an industry like ours: projects can change; you can run into some pretty big obstacles (like, say, elephant remains on your building site). So we need people who aren’t fazed by that: you get your nose down and you work hard, whatever comes your way.
Go-getters who own their development. We support our apprentices and graduates, and we recognise their successes, but nothing’s going to be handed to you on a plate here. If you want a promotion, you’ve got to work for it, and if you want to learn something, it’s up to you to pursue it.
Above all, we need people who believe in our values:
* Never Harm
* Always Deliver
* One Family, One Team, One Murphy
* Continuous Improvement
* Integrity – Respect for All
