Main Purpose of Role

Reporting to the Lead Design Manager in our Building business unit, you will manage the Quality function within the Operational Unit / Project / Contract, ensuring all are provided with Quality Leadership and support. Provide support and information to the Engineering Function.

Key Pesponsibilities

General

* To participate and promote best practice with the design team members through workshops, one to ones and design team meetings.

* To work with the design department and other operating functions

* To assist in developing the Inspection Testing Plan process and develop Hold Points/Quality Checklists

* To provide assistance with the procurement team on selecting key systems/products

* To advise and promote value engineering opportunities

* To advise and promote innovation

* To develop Murphys employers requirements and maintain this involving document

* Assist with the production of standard details

* Organise CPD/courses for the internal team.

* Notifying the team of any regulation changes and providing a presentation on what the changes are

* Providing presentations on errors being carried out on site and how to make it right

* To advise on buildability and best practice

* To develop and distribute best practice and quality bulletins

* To assist in the production of Standard details

* To provide Quality/Technical Bulletins

* Establish and provide Leadership in best practice quality matters

* Mentor and develop staff to ensure that they understand the importance of Quality

* Ensure management controls are in place so that all personnel are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities, and to provide advice as and when required.

* Manage, collate and review Quality statistics in a timely manner and submit to the lead design manager for reporting purposes.

* Review Quality statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement.

* Develop and implement Quality campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with the Lead Design Manager/Operations Management / Heads of Engineering.

* Manage and where required be involved in the preparation and review of Quality documents including those of 3rd parties.

* Manage and carry out regular inspections / audits of sites to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with Company Policy, Procedures and other stated requirements.

* Identify significant Quality issues for Operation Units / contracts and to include appropriate controls.

* Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Company procedures and Contract Requirements.

* Provide reports, presentations and information as directed

* Undertake internal and external audits as required.

* Provide input and review of pre-qualification, tender and Quality award submissions.

* Stop work when at any time Quality elements of the works are in question.

* Participate in working groups / forums as required.

* Provide communication to the business unit team on any new documents, changes associated with Technical Quality Management

* To utilise Murphy social media such as our Yammer capabilities for exchanging Quality information, for the purpose of knowledge sharing.

* Ensuring the business unit central standard forms library has the latest correct quality templates/documents

* To participate and promote best practice with the design team members through workshops, one to ones and design team meetings.

* Providing presentations on best practice and Quality matters to the team

Work Winning

* Providing support and assistance with the Bid/Work winning teams.

* To attend if requested client interviews

* Reviewing the tender information for building control and building warranty compliance

* Applying for building control and building warranty applications to accompany the tender submission fees.

* Advising on any key specialists/sub-consultants required to be included with the tender fees.

* Identifying key risks and necessary mitigations

* Identifying any compliance concerns

* Reviewing the tendering information received at bid stage / work winning when JMS are tendering for a new project. Review all the documentation and provide a summary report on all the key aspects, highlighting any discrepancies, incorrect information, errors, compliance with regulations and policy’s. Providing guidance on how to overcome the issues which will inform the bid/work winning team on how to price the job.

Pre-construction Stage

* To arrange workshops/reviews with the design co-ordinator and site teams

* To attend design team meetings organised by the design co-ordinator and design manager.

* To mark up drawings with comments and pass onto the design co-ordinator

* To review all associated information/documentation

* To carry out clash detection on the designs

* Appointing the building control and building warranty bodies

* To review all the interfaces between MEP, architectural and structure.

* To review the interfaces between the design team and suppliers/sub-contractors information.

* To review in fine detail all the interfaces with the design and ensure best practice for buildability

* Set up workshops to review the designs, comment, advise on regulations and best practice

* To review designs and ensure they are the most economical approach

* To advise on maintenance requirements

* To review and ensure designs meet all the employers’ requirements

* To advise on any CDM matters

* Identify principal designer matters and appointments

* Attend consultant interviews as part of the selection process

* Attend sub-contractor interviews as part of the selection process

* Attend pre-order meetings

* Reviewing risk assessments and method statements

* Reviewing and providing advise on the design, procurement and construction programmes.

* Reviewing and advising on consultant quotes/orders/appointments

* Reviewing and advising sub-contractor quotes/orders/appointments

* To Advise on consultants and sub-contractors costings/quotes and identify exclusions and work with the team to ensure all the unknowns are known.

* Provide compliance statements/reports on the quotes/costings/bill of quantities.

Throughout Project Lifecycle

* To assist with clearing all statutory requirements such as Planning, Building Control and warranty conditions.

* To carry out site inspections and provide a report to the business needs highlighting any installation errors, concerns and identify any best practice being carried out on site.

* To attend if requested by the project team any team meetings, client meetings, sub-contractor workshops etc.

* Provide tool box talks when required on Quality matters

* Reviewing/auditing the inspection test plans/completion checklists are being followed correctly

* Work closely with the project manager and site engineers to ensure the Quality process is being carried out on site.

* Take a lead with site management teams to ensure compliance with all requirements stipulated in the Quality Plans.

* Promote the reporting of nonconformances and provide advice on closing out actions.

* Manage and provide support to Project teams in the development of Inspection Test Plans/quality Checklists.

* Manage and review production of Quality plans, procedures and associated documentation and check compliance.

* Assisting with any on site issues with the lead project design co-ordinator on any technical matters.

* Reviewing risk assessments and method statements
