What you’ll be doing

You will be a designer of Public Health engineering systems working towards professional engineer status as an Incorporated Engineer. Your duties will include a wide range of activities across a variety of building projects. This could include discussions with clients and architects, calculations, preparing engineering system designs on computers, writing specifications and monitoring progress on construction sites.

You will develop and enhance your technical and management skills in a variety of applications and job roles, including design and project management. Additional learning support is provided via a comprehensive programme of live events and e-Learning and you will receive mentoring and supervision throughout your apprenticeship.

You will receive one-day study leave a week during term times to attend university to work towards your BSc or BEng Building Services Engineering degree. The Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship for Building Services Design Engineer will provide a route to gain Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status. The typical duration for this apprenticeship is 66 months, but this will depend on the previous experience of the apprentice.

Key Responsibilities

Working as part of a team within the Public Health Group your duties will include;

Assisting the Public Health Engineers in all areas of design, calculations, drafting and reports.

Designing above ground foul & rainwater disposal systems, sewage pumping, hot & cold-water systems, reclaimed water and sustainable drainage systems, plus many other aspects of Public Health Engineering.

Attending site meetings, design team meetings and surveys under supervision;

Attending day release to complete your degree / apprenticeship.

What do you need?

You’ll need to be good at maths and physics and have keen analytical and problem-solving skills and A genuine interest in developing a career within Public Health / consulting Engineering, with fresh ideas, enthusiasm, confidence and an entrepreneurial, creative spirit.

Candidates will typically have at least two A levels at Grades A-C including Mathematics and Physical Science, this is dependent on university requirement as some universities may require 3 A-levels. We encourage applications from candidates who have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Building Services Design Technician or a similar HNC, NVQ or ONC.
