Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.

The Transmission Offshore Delivery Team is responsible for delivering our approved connection from the Scottish mainland to the Shetland Isles. The project scope includes the construction of an HVDC converter station, AC substation and 10km of underground HVDC cables on the Shetland mainland. On the Scottish mainland an HVDC Switching Station and 2.5km of land cables and jointing will establish a multi-terminal HVDC system with the existing Caithness-Moray HVDC Link.

What is the Role?

Due to growth within SSE Transmission we have an opportunity for an experienced Civils Project Manager to contribute to ensuring the project is delivered successfully.

The Civils Project Manager will work closely with the site-based Project Managers and Construction Managers on Shetland and Caithness to support them on the Civils Package of works across both sites. The Project Manager will work alongside other Package Managers (HVDC, Cables and AC Substation Managers) to ensure interface management runs smoothly on the project. Travel to the project office in Inverness will also be required on a frequent basis, along with sites visits to Caithness and Kergord, Shetland.

The Civils Project Manager should apply and adhere to the Safety Management Systems, best practices and the SSE Large Capital Projects Governance processes for all projects. It is also important that they lead the project teams in alignment with the SSE Safety Culture and core leadership values.

The Project Manager should also deliver in alignment to the SHE-Transmission RIIO-T2 Business Plan paying focussing on our 5 clear goals.

The Project Manager (Transmission Offshore Delivery) will take responsibility for the project(s) following a handover from the Transmission Development Team after Gate 3 on the LCP process.
