Project Manager – Solihull

Would you like to join our Programme and Project Management (PPM team) in Solihull? We have a strong track record in delivering project controls and commercial support to our design teams delivering very large infrastructure projects such as HS2, Smart Motorways and rail electrification schemes. We are looking to grow our team to support anticipated increases in workload moving forward and to exploit opportunities to deploy similar service offerings to external transport sector clients.

The Role

Project Manager to join Project Management Office (PMO) assignments within Programme and Project Management (PPM) team in Campus.

The role will provide an opportunity to:

• Significantly enhance the post-holders own project management and commercial skills
• Assist in establishing and managing best practice PMO functions on large infrastructure projects
• Prepare resource forecasts and monitor progress against them
• Manage sub-consultant contracts, including monitoring of resource use, applications for payment and invoice preparation
• Prepare project progress reports and dashboards
• Manage change
• Help develop our PMO capability for transport sector clients
• Significantly enhance the post-holders own project management and commercial skills

Assignments are mainly project management focussed where we support our team from initial bid development through to project start up and on into the implementation phase. A typical role would include setting up project controls systems, typically using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power BI, establishing resource baselines and monitoring expenditure levels, articulating reasons for variance via established change management protocols and liaising with senior PMs on a regular basis. The role will include mentoring of junior staff and trainees.

You will report to the Transport Sector leader within the PPM Midlands. You will be required to be integrate into project delivery teams and work closely with technical discipline leaders, other Arup teams and other consultants / contractors as required.

Skills/Experience required for the role

• Strong overall experience, ideally within the road and rail sector, in either an engineering, project management or commercial function
• Knowledge of PMO functions, particularly resource and expenditure management
• Ideally degree qualified in a STEM subject area
• Ideally working towards Chartered status with a relevant professional body such as the ICE, RICS or APM
• Very strong Microsoft Excel skills, including use of pivot tables
• Knowledge of business intelligence systems such as Microsoft Power BI would be very advantageous
• Knowledge of planning software such as MS Project or Primavera P6 would also be an advantage
• A project management qualification (PRINCE 2, APM) would be beneficial
