PROJECT ENGINEER CLIMATE & FLOOD RESILIENCE

The Nicholas O’Dwyer Climate & Flood Resilience Section is currently delivering a number of major Flood Relief Schemes in Ireland for the Office of Public Works and Local Authority clients and are now looking to recruit a Project Engineer at our head office in Dublin.

The successful candidate will join an experienced team in which to grow their career and develop existing and new skills in a collaborative friendly environment. They will gain experience in the water and flood risk sector involving projects in Ireland, UK Africa and the Middle East

Project Engineer:

Nicholas O'Dwyer are currently looking for a design engineer ideally with some site based experience to work within our Climate and Flood Resilience Department at our head office in Dublin.

Main Responsibilities:

The successful candidate would be working as part of a team on Flood Resilience & Drainage Projects involving:

* Flood Defence Design including retaining walls and embankments

* Surface Water and drainage pipe design

* Hydraulic modelling using HEC-Ras/ICM or other 1D and 2D proprietary software

* Storm Water Pumping Stations

The project stage will vary across each project but the role will involve:

* Feasibility Assessments;

* Preparing Preliminary Reports;

* Preparation an of Hydrological Reports

* Development and verification of hydraulic models

* Scoping Investigation Contracts;

* Detailed Design;

* Preparing Technical Specification and Contract Documents;

* Procurement Process;

* Construction Stage Administration;

* Construction Stage Supervision (optional);

* Coordination of inputs from other team members;

* Client liaison.

Key Requirements:

* You will be degree qualified;

* Ideally the successful candidate will be qualified in Civil Engineering or similar engineering qualification (i.e. hydrological);

* Minimum of 5 to 7 years relevant post-graduate with ideally hydraulic modelling experience including model building and verification, preparation of reports and project management of civil engineering works;

* Ability to communicate effectively;

* Ability to work as part of a team and achieve tight deadlines;

* Attention to detail and ability to comply with Quality Assurance Management Systems is essential;

* Strong English writing ability is essential;

* Ability to prepare reports, conduct feasibility studies and apply engineering knowledge to solve problems;

* Ability to prepare specifications and contract documents,

* Ideally the candidate will have some design experience in flood resilience schemes

* Ideally the candidate with have some site experience including

* Dealing with contractual matters on site related to civil works;

* Coordinating Contract interfaces with respect to civil works;

* Liaison with Stakeholders;

* Assessment of Contractor claims and writing reports on same;

* Assessment of Contractor payment applications against work completed;

* Assessment of Contractor performance against Contractual KPI’s;

* Assessment of Contractor submissions including method statements and preparation of clear comments;

* Supervision of the works, keeping records, measuring, managing correspondence, and contractual documentation;

* Other duties as may be assigned.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

* A valid Driving License and own transport is preferred;

* General understanding of hydrology and hydraulic requirements in flood and drainage projects;

* Experience preparing site specific Flood Risk Assessments.

* Have experience in pipeline works

* Strong knowledge of construction materials and a good understanding of construction techniques;

* Knowledge of construction contracts.
