We are recruiting a Procurement Manager, to be based in the North of England. The role can be based in either Salford or Leeds with travel required across the Northern regions.

The goal is to develop a ‘best in class’ procurement function which supports the global strategy of BAM, Procurement strategy and objectives, and leverages our scale whilst also balancing our local project delivery and commercial requirements. The Procurement Manager supports the Group Procurement Strategy in order to create value, lower risks and drive higher margins through proactive management, collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Through this we can create trust and sustainable relationships with our stakeholders and vendors. Implement Procurement strategy in relevant BU, tenders and projects according to the Procurement goals and policy as prescribed by the tender / project team. The Procurement Manager takes in consideration the total cost of ownership.

By working collaboratively with other procurement teams within the OpCo you will be responsible for the implementation of the Royal BAM Group purchasing policy. You will manage and develop a team of Procurement professionals within the North West and North East which will support the business in both tender and contract stage procurement activities.

You will work closely with our commercial teams.

Your mission

Your role will include but will not be exclusive to:

• Ensuring our supply chain [subcontract and supply only] are aligned with the business needs and strategy
• Promote and support Category Management and drive compliance through better use of framework agreements and preferred suppliers
• Help develop and Support Head of Procurements BU strategy to implement best in class Procurement and supply chain
• Support and enhance business initiatives including DFMA and the digital journey whilst identifying other areas to improve efficiency and productivity.
• Ensuring the procurement function is engaged and accountable at every stage of the project lifecycle, thereby enabling the adoption of BAM Construct procurement strategies
• Maintaining and expanding our strategic partnerships and supplier relationships
• Managing procurement professionals within the North West and North East
• Promoting knowledge share within the UK
• Assisting in the standardisation of procurement practices in the UK
• Promoting the ‘One BAM’ way of working.
• Liaising and promoting the services of the following new departments, which will be established at Company and Group level;
o Procurement Services
o Category Management
o Procurement Solutions
o Indirect Procurement

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced procurement professional, qualified to degree level in a relevant subject. You will be able to demonstrate your experiences in adding value through commercial and procurement activities and will show commitment to helping the business sharpen its commercial edge by leveraging our scale.
You are analytically strong, articulate and are be able to express your vision clearly. Your excellent interpersonal skills allows you to develop relationships within the organisation which allow you to seek continuous improvement of processes to add value to the business. With your understanding of contractual issues, knowledge of purchasing and supply chain management and with your knowledge of evolving supplier/customer markets and modern methods of construction, you are a sparring partner for management and commercial teams.
You will feel comfortable working both independently and within a team.
You have strong written and oral expression skills, in English.
An element of national and international travel may be required to fulfil this role.

To be effective in this role, you will have:
• Excellent stakeholder management skills
• Proven experience in a procurement role, preferably in a project-oriented environment with a focus on strategic partnerships
• The ability to understand both global and local procurement requirements and be able to balance these for mutual benefit
• The ability to build and maintain relationships
• A natural comfort in working in a collaborative manner and a desire to seek opportunities to develop synergies across our business
• A good awareness of construction vendors both subcontract and materials and sources internationally
