What is the purpose of the role?
To undertake data analysis and modelling to support the management of water treatment assets, acting as technical lead for the Process Modelling team. This work will include modelling the capability & resilience of water treatment assets under a range of scenarios to understand the future risk to water supply, and so support the case for investment.
What makes this role unique?
This is an excellent opportunity to develop and enhance your skills in water treatment process and resilience modelling and help shape investment decision-making. We are looking for an individual who is able to work independently as well as provide technical leadership in a small team of Process Modellers, whose work includes supporting our water resources modellers and hydrogeologists in assessing water supply asset and system performance. You will be working with our Water Treatment Strategy lead as well as Asset Planners to support treatment process investment decisions, providing robust, evidence-based analysis of treatment performance data and model output.
What will this role involve?
In this role you will:
Model the capability and resilience of water treatment process assets under critical operational scenarios.
This will require the definition and use of appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to analyse the treatment works performance, availability and condition as well as their resilience, and so assist understanding of the future risk to water supply.
Use the model capability and resilience outputs to characterise the treatment works pre- and post-investment and so support investment decision-making.
This will model the link between asset capability and investment in order to predict future water treatment works performance under different investment scenarios, including growth, capital maintenance, quality and resilience investment programmes.
Manage the development and maintenance of our suite of water treatment process and resilience models, ensuring that they are consistent with current asset operating manuals.
By defining levels of confidence in each of the models, prioritise models for review and improvement to ensure that they remain fit-for-purpose.
Highlight and promote development of key datasets required to improve modelling capability and confidence in their outputs and use in decision-making.
Work with the Water Resources & Process Modelling and Water Treatment Strategy leads, Asset Planners and our Innovation team to deliver water treatment process investigations as well as shape strategic planning and investment.
What are we looking for?
To be successful in this role you will ideally have skills or experience in one or more of the following areas: Water treatment works, raw & treated water quality, Treatment process design, Asset performance & condition analysis, Investment planning, Advanced spreadsheet analysis skills. The role would suit someone with a water or wastewater process engineering background or water quality and process science background. A driving licence would be beneficial.
