What is the purpose of the role?
The purpose of this role is to ensure that the field scientist team are supported and lead effectively. You will be managing and developing a team of process scientists who provide expert technical support and guidance to operational teams in order to comply with Statutory, Regulatory & business objectives. You will be expected to drive improvements and ensure team members meet health and safety requirements and KPIs. The team undertake a number of proactive and reactive activities to ensure that water quality is maintained and incidents are responded to, resolved and plans put in place to prevent any future problems in a timely and effective manner. As the manager of this team you will be expected to ensure the quality of your team's work is to the correct standard and that they are receiving sufficient coaching to achieve these targets. You will also be expected to respond to incidents and support the team when needed.

What will this role involve?
As part of this team you will be expected to undertake activities such as;
Water quality monitoring from the source to service reservoir.
Investigating water quality failures / events at company assets and raising on the asset drinking water safety plan.
Provide recommendations to both internal and external departments on how these events can be prevented in the future.
Providing technical support to production and capital delivery schemes in order to ensure that water quality requirements are met, conducting internal water treatment works process audits.
Participation in an out of hours technical support role is also required (1 in every 5).
Provide coaching, support and guidance to your team ensuring that they are equipped to perform their role to the highest possible standard.
Represent the company in meeting with stakeholders to build awareness internally & externally and maintain the reputation of the Thames Water brand.
What are we looking for?
The successful candidate must have an HNC or Degree (or equivalent) in a Scientific or Engineering discipline. You must also have significant experience in water treatment processes, supply or regulation. Ideally you will also have experience of working with Sample Manager, EQUIS and SAP systems and previous line management experience would be an advantage although this is not essential. Good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills are also key to this role as you will be liaising with internal stakeholders within Thames Water on a day to day basis. Travel to other sites is required as a major part of this role thus a driving license is essential. The ability to work in a logical and analytical manner and be able to maintain a positive and professional approach when dealing with customers is also essential.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is offering a salary of £36,000 - £40,000 depending on experience and will be based from our Farmoor site however regular travel across your region will be required.
