Job Description

The Job Description Form should be used for all roles within The
Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). This form should be

Job Title: Research Engineer

Grade: RE

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Department: Advanced Tooling and Fixturing
Location: The Manufacturing Technology Centre Ltd., Ansty Park, Coventry, CV7 9JU.

Reporting To: James Knight - Process Development Team Lead Main Purpose: The main purpose of this role is to contribute to the Advanced Tooling & Fixturing technology theme through delivery of allocated projects for MTC’s customers, operating within the Process Development team. This will involve working within multi-disciplined project teams to develop technological solutions and processes, taking them through Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRLs) by driving progression and assessment against measurable targets. A breadth of engineering technology awareness and/or experience would be beneficial with a
greater depth or bias of knowledge towards
automation, tooling and fixturing.

Continuous Improvement (CI) is an important
aspect of life at the MTC and the candidate is
expected to participate in this through capability
building and development of best practices.

The post holder is expected to manage their own
projects or assist project management by the
creation and maintenance of project plans and
status reports, including project risk assessment; in
line with MTC best practice in MS Project Server
and AX.
Duties & Responsibilities: To deliver the qualification of developed solutions and future state processes through applied problem solving. Conducting research and benchmarking relative technologies for deployment to MTC projects. To gain familiarity and eventually expertise within process automation, tooling, and fixturing across a broad range of industries.
Author reports, deliver technical presentations and
generate project proposals for customer projects.

To aid in generation of marketing material to
promote the theme and communicate successes,
through means such as case studies, academic
papers and presentations.

Identify and progress the development of customer
and Core Research Project (CRP) opportunities.

Manage and deliver customer projects in line with
the MTC Project Management Process. Ensuring
the quality, delivery, cost management and safety
of yourself and others at all times whilst adhering to
MTC values.

To own and manage a personal development plan
for skills and knowledge; including helping others
within the team to develop their skills and
knowledge.
