Principles Signalling Designer

The railway sector has always been one of our core sectors and because of our success in building and maintaining the railway, Amey Consulting has become an industry leader in Rail Design consultancy services. With a growing team of 550+ staff, working across our 12 Rail design offices throughout the UK we are continuing to add to our already extensive and impressive list of project awards.

The role

Amey are currently working on a long term upgrade of the core valley lines in Wales direct for Transport for Wales. We also have a number of frameworks where we are producing designs for Network Rail right through GRIP stages 2 to 8. These works include a GRIP 2 to 3 project to re-lock and re-control the signalling within the Cambridge area, a GRIP 5 to 8 project to upgrade 3 level crossings in Woodbridge, Cornwall Life Extension works, a GRIP 3 project to upgrade a number of User Worked Crossings to Minatare Stop Light type and the provision of a new depot at Taff’s Well where we are introducing a new Programmable Logic Controller to control train movements within the depot. We are also are on the Design Services Framework and undertake work on HS1.

The successful candidate will undertake, verify and/or lead the production of signalling design as part of a dedicated signalling design team in Swindon, however other locations may be considered for the right candidate. They must be able to work as part of a team or with limited supervision and be able to supervise the work of other staff when required (i.e. provide mentorship of junior staff).

In a typical week you will:

• Undertake outline and detailed principles signalling designs and reports
• Undertake the independent verification of signalling designs and reports
• Aid in the development of junior team members
• Keep up to date with current NR, RSSB and British standards relevant to signalling design
• Contribute to the production and maintenance of statutory risk assessments and registers

We want to hear from you if you have:

• IRSE principle designer licence holder
• IRSE verifiers licence holder
• Strong knowledge of signalling principles
• Good communications and team working skills
• Leadership experience
• Experience of acting as CRE
• Institution membership; IRSE, IET etc
• Institution registration; IEng, CEng etc (desirable)
• PTS
