We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Stakeholder Engagement Consultant to join our team in the north of England, managing and delivering stakeholder engagement and consultation for infrastructure projects across the region.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about delivering effective communications and who can demonstrate experience in managing projects, people and resources and engaging and consulting a wide range of audiences to support complex projects. Knowledge of relevant planning and environmental policy developments related to stakeholder participation and engagement would be an advantage, as would experience in the infrastructure, development and energy sectors.
The successful candidate will be supported by our established Stakeholder Engagement team in the region. The team is based in Leeds, but candidates wanting to work from other regional offices (Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle) will also be considered. We are looking for someone who is proactive and ambitious, who can bring new ideas about engagement and is interested in learning about our work across different sectors.
The majority of our work revolves around engagement, consultation and communications during the consenting or construction phase of major infrastructure projects. We have been involved in a range of high-profile projects in the north of England and further afield, across a range of sectors, including:
Major rail schemes, such as the Transpennine Route Upgrade, the Northumberland Line and HS2 Phases One and 2;
Major highways improvement schemes for Highways England, such as M1/M62 Lofthouse and A1 Doncaster to Darrington;
Local and Combined Authority led transport schemes, including Armley Gyratory improvements (Leeds City Council) and the redevelopment of Halifax Bus Station (West Yorkshire Combined Authority);
The Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme Phase 2;
Luas Finglas rail extension (Dublin);
Housing developments, including for Homes England; and
Multiple energy and waste management facilities.
You will have the opportunity to work on projects that are transforming infrastructure. Your role will include:
Leading on the management and delivery stakeholder engagement for a range of projects, with a focus on pre-application consultation and engagement for infrastructure and other development schemes;
Managing junior members of the team and supporting their growth and development;
Supporting the growth of the stakeholder engagement service across AECOM; and
Identifying new business opportunities and developing tender responses, which will include promoting AECOM’s stakeholder engagement service to both internal and external audiences.
Experience in industry sectors relevant to our business (e.g. transport, energy, water, residential development, commercial development), and confidence engaging a variety of stakeholder groups.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and government restrictions, much of our work typically involved going out and meeting stakeholders and communities, which we hope to do again in the future. Therefore, a willingness to work flexibly and to travel as and when required is would be an advantage.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Some experience of Microsoft Teams tools would also be an advantage, as would experience with InDesign.
