Reports to: Mission Planning and Control Software Group Leader

The Opportunity

Our Mission Planning & Control Software team is growing in Bristol! We are looking for a highly capable, adaptable and inquisitive Principle Software Engineer to join our Development Facility in Filton, Bristol. You will be part of the team developing solutions for the next generation of advanced missile systems, specifically in the Mission Planning & Control domain.

The Role

* Development and delivery of Mission Planning software using various technologies and techniques ranging from C++ to Java.
* Working with a team of talented software engineers to develop and deliver complex software engineering products to a high standard.
* Our software products span most of the life cycle therefore this role will cover aspects of requirements management, design, development, testing and maintenance.
* Involvement in evolving software development using new methods and tools which are important to next generation Mission Planning software products in the UK mainly based on Java technologies.
* Working on technology refresh projects to improve our software products in the field.
* Software support into small studies and future work activities de risking new technologies, with a room for a creative approach to solve engineering challenges.
* Supporting and maintaining current mission planning software products.

What are we looking for?

* Ideally qualification to degree level in Software Engineering or other related subjects such as Computer Science.
* Experience in developing software using C++ and Java to standards like MISRA.
* Experience of software design methods such as UML - preferably Rhapsody.
* Experience of using controlled software configuration tools – such as IBM RTC.
* You will have an adaptable and flexible approach to work across multiple projects at varying stages of their life cycle.
* An understanding of development processes such as Agile together with experience of working using process that require high levels of rigour and control.
