Job Summary

Our Building Services team are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer with experience in Data Centre/Mission Critical projects and has good client facing skills to join the Building Engineering team to be based in one of our offices in UK or Ireland, we are flexible with location.

About the role:

The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the leading the design for critical systems on data centre projects across Europe. This will involve preparing scheme and detailed engineering designs for critical and non-critical mechanical systems for major data centres, both Hyperscale and CoLo.

The successful candidate will have proven design experience, delivering to quality, time and budget. This role will suit someone with a mechanical engineering / building services degree, who is enthusiastic, self motivated, and looking to advance their career.

Duties of the role will include, but not be limited to;

Receiving brief from Senior Management, be able to contribute to the overall coordinated design, as well as the mechanical design.

Help to assess staff requirements at each work stage, agreeing these with the Project Manager and be able to manage single disciplinary and multi-disciplinary projects.

Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants to provide a fully coordinated design.

Ensure the Design Team is kept fully informed of all technical and other information necessary for the duration of the project.

Undertake the control of all production aspects of the projects in the office.

Ensure compliance with all Statutory and Regulatory obligations, make submissions to the Statutory Authorities and obtain approvals as necessary.

Produce all design information and ensure that all calculations are prepared and signed off in accordance with the requirements of the IMS, relevant Standards and Codes of Practice.

Represent AECOM at Client, Design Team and Progress meetings throughout the design and construction phases of projects.

Input to pre-qualification and selection of contractors, respond to tender queries, comment and review tender returns.

Attend tender / client interviews.

Attend site inspection meetings.

Ensure the project work complies with the Project Management Plan and Programme.

Understand and implement AECOM’s Safety Health and Environment Policy.

Minimum Requirements

A strong technical understanding of mechanical building services on Data Centre and Mission Critical Projects

The ability to work accurately, independently and efficiently, and to take ownership of projects.

Effective communication skills and be a team worker

Significant track record of leading mechanical design teams on data centre projects.

Client facing experience on data centre projects.

Experience in project and client management within a defined fee budget and program, including managing team resources and interfacing with other disciplines.

Mentoring and support skills for the less senior engineers and technicians in the mechanical team.

Ability to speak fluently and communicate effectively in written reports and oral presentations
