Job Summary

AECOM's Marine Ecology team continues to expand and we’re looking for experienced new team members to join us, working on exciting international and UK projects. We are key players in a really diverse range of projects including impact assessments for high profile power and infrastructure schemes, oil and gas, industrial and commercial developments. You’ll join a technically skilled and enthusiastic team and will have significant opportunities to use and develop your own technical practice. The appointees can be based at any of our main offices in the UK. You need to have demonstrable consultancy experience in marine ecology encompassing national and international impact assessments as well as contribute to other areas of work including research, survey design and business development.

Job Duties:

The appointee would undertake the following tasks as part of their role:

*

Act as marine ecology technical lead for a wide range of marine & coastal projects including EIA/ESIA screening & scoping, ES chapters, HRA, WFD and MCZ assessments and Marine Licence applications;

*

Plans and organizes project studies such as desk based studies, scopes of work for subcontractors, specification of surveys and modelling studies where needed (e.g. underwater sound, sediment dispersion);

*

Collaborate with other environmental disciplines such as acoustics and coastal processes;

*

Input to or lead on fee proposals, contribution to marketing and business development including internal and external presentations and client liaison;

*

Review of baseline and impact studies in line with international biodiversity standards;

*

Design, procure and/or participate in intertidal and subtidal surveys, data analysis and reporting;

*

Habitat and species identification (in-situ, from video etc.), biotope determination;

*

Mentor and develop and work of less experienced marine ecology scientists;

*

Project Management tasks including managing budgets, programme and subcontractors, quality assurance of deliverables; and

*

Undertake other tasks to support the wider environmental business, as required.

Minimum Requirements

We are looking for ambitious and confident marine ecological consultants who can offer the following:

*

Provision of technical advice and application of advanced scientific practices, theories and technologies for a diverse range of marine projects;

*

Experience writing marine Environmental Statement chapters and undertaking associated assessments (HRA/WFD/MCZ);

*

Specialist knowledge in one or more key areas including underwater sound impacts, the ecology of fish or marine mammals, international biodiversity performance standards, tropical habitats, analysis of complex marine data sets and marine survey design and planning;

*

Make a positive contribution to Business Development, marketing and production of techncial standards;

*

Be a self-starter with excellent time management skills and motivation to work on own initiative though the right candidate will enjoy a close working relationship with marine ecology colleagues;

*

A willingness to collaborate, with other ecologists and across a variety of adjacent disciplines including coastal processes and hydrodynamics, acoustics, water scientists etc;

*

Conducts research, develops technical practice standards and does investigation work as required.

*

Ability to communicate at all levels and share knowledge and experience with colleagues;

*

Positive engagement with Health and Safety issues associated with working in, on & near water;

*

A willingness to undertake fieldwork on occasion.

Preferred Qualifications

*

A recognised degree in marine biology/ecology or a related a biological or science discipline – a relevant post graduate qualification in the one of these would be advantageous but not essential for an experienced professional;

*

Member of CIEEM or similar professional body; or eligible to qualify for this status;

*

Licensed to drive a vehicle in the UK.
