We are currently looking to recruit a Principal Geotechncial Engineer for our Hertford office. You will be a technical professional, self-starter who delivers quality technical outputs. Likely to be managing staff on a project basis.
A typical week would include:
1. Technical management and delivery of geotechnical projects making use of efficient working practices to provide industry leading, best value services to our clients.
2. Effectively manage and deliver project work with robust project financial management. Has budget responsibility for the delivery of projects and services.
3. Assist in the management of the team resources and allocation of appropriate project resources.
4. Manage, motivate, mentor and develop supporting professional staff across the team. Contribution to technical excellence initiatives.
5. Oversee all aspects of project delivery including liaison with clients, contractors and sub consultants, and public and statutory bodies, quality control and management of specialists.
6. Working in accordance with accepted methods and legislation (including CDM) and operate in accordance with WSP’s corporate health & safety, environment and quality (SHEQ) standards. Taking ownership for aspects of SHEQ management across the geotechnical team.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
1. In depth knowledge of geotechnical engineering, with a broad understanding of the underlying principles, and substantial project management experience of medium sized projects.
2. Significant consultancy experience across a range of business sectors with demonstrably good commercial awareness and relationships with clients and contractors. Has strong communication and project management.
3. Notable experience in the delivery of geotechnical projects, including preparing reports to a high technical level. Understanding of client requirements and the ability to influence contract specifications. Awareness of project risks and change management.
4. Excellent report-writing and strong client liaison skills. Will have significant previous experience of undertaking and managing: geotechnical desk studies; designing, procuring & supervising Ground Investigations (GIs); checking and reviewing Ground Investigation Reports & Geotechnical Design Reports in accordance with the requirements of Eurocode 7 : Part 1. Client facing and able to lead at client/contractor meetings
5. Demonstrable ability to manage geotechnical design teams within a multi-disciplinary environment together with a full understanding of design submission documentation and processes. An up-to-date knowledge of relevant UK legislation relevant to the profession.
6. In-depth knowledge of Eurocode 7 and UK annex design codes, ground investigation and construction contracts and specifications.
7. Fully familiar and able to interrogate a wide range of geotechnical software for the design of civil engineering projects including deep and shallow foundations (including pile group analysis), embedded and gravity retaining walls, earthworks/slope stability and reinforced earthworks. Familiarity with the use of geotechnical software for the management, review and presentation of ground investigation and geotechnical data and able to guide others to follow current best practice.
8. Must have the skills to check and critically evaluate work done by others, including interaction with other disciplines, be it drawings, calculations or reports, and have a proven track record of doing so.
