Lead Obsolescence
Engineer

Are
you a confident and self-motivated Engineer, with the ability to lead the
delivery of proactive Obsolescence Management (OM) activities for one of the
most complex System of Systems within the UK? If so, a position has arisen to lead
best practice and de-risk the delivery of Complex Systems fitted to the new
Dreadnought Submarines.

Embracing
a flexible working ethos, there is opportunity for the successful candidate to
work from a variety of sites across the southern England, namely Weymouth,
Frimley or Bristol.

As
the OM lead for the Combat System (CS), you will be taking on the challenge of leading
activities across the Dreadnought submarine programme, you will therefore be
experienced and confident in liaising with and delivering information in all
formats to key stakeholders across the CS enterprise (MoD and Industry
partners).

This
role will provide the successful candidate an opportunity to refine and
develop, in conjunction with the Obsolescence Manager, the maturing Strategy
for OM across the CS.

Whilst
the incumbent will lead the delivery of OM into the Dreadnought Programme, they
will also lead on nominated CS systems, therefore this role will provide an
opportunity to work across the Lifecycle from Design through to In-Service.

Your main
responsibilities as a Principle Obsolescence Engineer will involve:

To
ensure the Dreadnought OM requirements (as defined) are defined, agreed and
implemented across the Combat System scope.

Act
as the Subject Matter Expert on OM against the Dreadnought Programme

Act
as the Lead Obsolescence Engineer for nominated CS Systems

To
co-ordinate obsolescence events through the defined OM Resolution process,
ensuring impact to projects and programmes is understood, communicated and
progressed through to resolution

Delivering
periodic management and progress reports; both written and verbal across the
enterprise, including presenting to the customer base, at various off-site
locations.

Your
skills and qualifications:

Essential:

A
sound understanding of the techniques used throughout the engineering lifecycle
to manage obsolescence at the Product, Equipment and System level.

Knowledge
of the engineering life cycle (CADMID)
and how these OM techniques are applied to effectively manage obsolescence

Proficient
in use of MS tools. This role will include a significant requirement for
analysing data to provide valuable information to the wider customer base, to
ensure the risk of Obsolescence is determined, managed and reported. )

Desirable

Degree
qualified (or equivalent experience) in a suitable engineering discipline

An
understanding of how the MoDs Submarine Delivery Agency operates and its
relationship with BAESS as a supplier of Complex Systems and Platforms

Experience
working within a MoD support solution (as a customer or supplier), but ideally
within the Submarine environment.

all levels and build and maintain effective relationships, needed to deliver
against this role.

You
must have an organised approach to dealing with complexity, in terms of
co-ordinating the various activities to be deployed during the course of normal
business.

Frimley and Bristol will also be considered)

Combat Systems

Our
Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK
Royal Navy for more than a century. It currently employs approximately 7,700
people, with 500 of these working for Combat Systems across our sites in
Barrow-in-Furness, Ash Vale, Broad Oak, Filton, Frimley and Weymouth.

We
are currently responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of the
Royal Navy's latest and most capable generation of attack submarines, as well
as their intelligent Combat Systems trusted to detect threats in the naval
environment.

Our
Combat Systems team designs, builds, integrates and supports all of the
submarine combat systems in the UK fleet – essentially, the eyes and ears of
each platform. We provide through-life support for combat systems, sensors and
radars, and deliver complex programmes and technologies by applying expert
programme management and world-class engineering.
