Job Summary

AECOM is looking to employ a Principal Engineer to work within our growing Water consulting team in Basingstoke. The successful candidate will have a track record in project managing & leading design teams. The candidate will be expected to have been involved in various design stages of water and wastewater utility projects including feasibility, preliminary and detailed design and construction support. This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified individual to join a multi-disciplinary engineering design team delivering the design water and wastewater networks and treatment works.

The position requires a candidate with excellent technical and project management skills. The candidate will be responsible for the management of projects including planning, control and monitoring from feasibility to detailed design phase. The candidate’s responsibility will include technical, programme, financial, commercial and quality management of water and wastewater projects. Candidates would therefore be expected to have demonstrable experience in leading designs, programming, resource management, and delivering against a defined scope and budget.

Minimum Requirements


You will understand the importance of Health and Safety in design and contribute to our positive health and safety culture


The individual will benefit from both a technical and management background in water and wastewater projects.


You will have experience working under standard forms of contract including developing proposals


You will enjoy working in collaborative delivery environments together with clients and contractors, and be able to confidently lead client and team meetings


You will play a key role in developing the project budget and schedule, and ensure this is delivered during the project, with any risk or changes proactively managed.


It is essential that you have excellent interpersonal skills, using these to develop and maintain a good working relationship with both internal and external clients.


You will have demonstrated an ability to run projects, administer contracts and control budgets.


You will have demonstrated technical skills to be able to review technical detail and lead technical delivery of multi-disciplinary projects


Demonstrate sound problem solving skills, accountability for assigned work, and solid written and communication skills.


You will be confident acting as a mentor to developing engineers, promoting their technical and professional development.

Preferred Qualifications


You will hold a BSc or BEng in Civil Engineering or equivalent


You will be chartered with a relevant institution (e.g ICE or CIWEM) or close to gaining chartership
