Job Summary

At AECOM we consult with our clients to modernise, expand and deliver the most iconic and complex building and infrastructure projects in the world. Climate change and carbon reduction is the hot topic for governments, councils and private businesses. With “net zero by 2030” commitments, businesses are requiring more and more support as we move towards a low carbon future.

AECOM’s work in this area is growing fast so we are seeking a Senior or Principal Energy Consultant to join an established Sustainable Buildings Group based in our Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham offices which is part of a wider UK building sustainability division about 80 people strong.

You will play a key role in delivering energy and carbon management services (with a focus on buildings) for several major public and private sector clients, helping them to meet their Net Zero targets and ambitions. Our clients cover a range of sectors, including public, commercial, industrial and education.

This role is likely to suit you if you have experience within a construction consultancy with a clear track record of detailed report writing, technical problem solving and client engagement. You will need to have a good technical understanding of building services, building physics, and low and zero carbon energy generation technologies, as well as strong numerical and data analysis skills, and to underline the point you will need excellent report writing, presentation and communication skills.

The responsibilities of this position include

*

Conduct energy audits of a range of different building types, and prepare life cycle cost analysis for energy saving opportunities

*

Analyse metered energy data, building energy management system (BeMS) logs, operational information, and other relevant supporting information to identify opportunities for energy reduction and building performance optimisation

*

Carry out post occupancy evaluation (POE) of new buildings, including carrying out occupant surveys

*

Develop robust spreadsheet based energy scenario models to support the development of energy and carbon management strategies for clients with large portfolios of buildings

*

Prepare energy and sustainability statements to support planning applications for new developments

*

Support building services design colleagues to conduct options analyses and specify energy efficient and low carbon buildings and technologies

*

Support district heating specialists in preparing techno-economic models and feasibility studies for low carbon district heating and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) projects

*

Support specialists in preparing renewable energy technology feasibility studies

*

Assist with specification and management of installation of temporary energy monitoring equipment at client sites, and analyse collected data

*

Carry out project management and administration tasks, manage smaller projects, and work towards becoming a certified AECOM Project Manager

*

Support team leaders in preparing tenders and proposals for new work, and take a lead in preparing proposals for smaller pieces of work

*

Line manage junior energy consultants

*

Join the broader AECOM sustainability practice, network with colleagues, and engage other internal project opportunities

Person Specification

*

Highly proficient in the use of Excel and spreadsheet analysis, and Microsoft Word

*

Excellent written/report writing and communication skills

*

Good presentation skills

*

Proven ability to work to deadlines and to a budget

*

Highly numerate with good attention to detail, and ability to work methodically through large complex datasets and calculations

*

Technical skills relating to energy use in buildings, building services and/or renewable energy Personable and able to interact with a variety of technical and non-technical people

*

Continual improvement mindset, and drive to seek knowledge

Minimum Requirements

*

Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in engineering, physics or mathematics related discipline (building services and/or energy related qualifications are highly desirable.

*

Clear professional experience in sustainability and/or energy consulting, management, green building consulting or other related experience in the consulting industry and/or private or public sector.

*

A solid foundation of understanding or analysis of client business practices and goals; develops and formulates solutions to client problems on assigned projects Clear experience with a consultancy environment or organisation that is involved in building sustainably and efficiency improvements

*

Responsible for the creation of work plans and task definitions. Under general direction

*

Has broad technical knowledge but possesses an area of specialisation or focus

*

Current UK driving license

Preferred Qualifications

*

If not currently chartered, you should be working towards chartership with a relevant institution (e.g. CIBSE, Energy Institute, IMechE). Other energy related certifications also desirable, such as CEM, CMVP, DEC assessor, ISO 50001,

*

Experience of energy and building performance data analysis

*

Experience of energy auditing, and preparing energy audit reports

*

Experience of working in a consultancy environment, to deadlines and a fixed budget

*

Dependent on projects you may need to pass an advanced security check which would require residency or an extended stay in the UK

Preferred technical knowledge

Technical understanding of building services and low carbon / renewable energy systems

Familiarity with Building Management Systems and software packages

ESOS lead assessor certification
