Are you an Electrical Engineer with strong skills and experience working with transmission and distribution (T&D) voltages up to 400kV? Do you have proven experience as a site electrical engineer for major high voltage infrastructure projects? We have an exciting role in our established Electricity T&D team which could be based in either of our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices.
The first assignment for this role will be as the Site Electrical Engineer for an innovative new project providing grid stability services, based at Keith in north-east Scotland for 8 months from February 2021. As the Owners Engineer representative on site, you will provide all the technical and contract administration services required, with the opportunity to play a major role in the commissioning of this first of a kind project. Thereafter there are several similar project opportunities around UK and Ireland.
In addition to the site based roles, you will have the opportunity to provide project management and technical support on a wide variety of projects, covering both traditional T&D services and the emerging new technologies impacting the sector.
Our T&D team focuses on the management, design and supervision of electrical power projects at both transmission and distribution voltages ranging from 1kV to greater than 500kV.
We operate as a virtual team across 7 offices in the UK & Ireland, with the wide variety of skills required to meet the demands of our wide range of Clients, with multi-office project teams being established as necessary. As a team we provide a broad range of services in the sector covering substations, overhead lines, cables at both transmission and distribution level, HVDC systems, subsea interconnectors, specialist network studies, earthing and lightning protection design, renewable generation grid connection and balance of plant design, EV and electrification of heat infrastructure, plus others. The team acts as the centre of excellence for T&D engineering in UK&I and EMEA, offering opportunities to work on projects abroad if interested.
As the Site Electrical Engineer, you will be required to provide all the services typically required of the Owners Engineer Representative on site. This will include:
Monitoring the EPC Contractor’s site health and safety management and implementation. Advising of any deficiencies or corrective measures necessary
Monitoring quality and progress on site
Administering the Contract (advising on Contractor’s variations and claims, monthly applications for payment, reporting progress, etc.
Chairing routine and ad-hoc meetings on site
Providing weekly and monthly reports, backed up by maintaining a daily site log.
Supporting the Client in liaising with stakeholder liaison, including SHETL.
Reviewing commissioning plans and witnessing commissioning.
When not based on site, in addition to a broad range of electrical engineering responsibilities, this role will encourage business development and project management skills.
Be working towards, or have already achieved, Chartered Engineer status
Proven experience acting as the Owners Engineer
Customer facing skills
An ability to work flexibly across a broad range of projects
The vision and skills to apply emerging technologies to meet new project requirements
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience of design or management in at least one of the following areas is required. Additionally, broader experience across several of the following areas would be advantageous:
Experience in the administration and management of FIDIC EPC Con
* BSc/BEng Electrical Engineering (Hons) or MEng.
