Title of Post: Principal Designer

Main purpose of Job: To deliver design safely, to time, profitably and to customer satisfaction

* Provide design deliverables that satisfy safety and quality requirements
* Produce design calculations and drawings
* Verification and Validation of non-complex design details

* Direct assisting design personnel and other personnel as required
* Contribute to the production of design investigations, reports and specifications
* Ensure project change for design details is fully Implemented and recorded

* Undertake work using formal processes and procedures
* Work towards IRSE Design Verifiers Licence and maintain IRSE Logbook

* Produce design details in compliance with relevant technical, professional and group standards
* Report to Design Engineer /Design Verifier for guidance and instruction as required
* Manage and record time and assist in providing time estimates for tasks

* Interface with testing, installation and other departments as necessary
* Assist with testing and commissioning


* Ability to plan and produce compliant signalling schemes with minimum supervision
* Good office applications and CAD and CAD standards knowledge
* Detailed knowledge of

* Signalling principles
* Circuits and components

* Implications of working with other disciplines

* 1.1.150D or 1.1.150Eor 1.1.1550 Licence

* HNC level education in an Electrical engineering discipline

* Detailed knowledge of Group and Network Rail company standards and procedures and HSE legislation
* Good communication skills

* Knowledge of railway construction methods and materials used
