Job description/Person specification

We are seeking a Principal Cyber Security Consultant to join our growing team You will be part of QinetiQ’s Cyber and Intelligence Group that provides a full spectrum of cyber security services to government and commercial clients: from Penetration Testing and Security Health Checks, to Cryptography (Crypt-Key), OSINT and Intrusion Analysis, through to Security Architecture and Consultancy Services. Our team of Cyber Security consultants provide National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) certified Cyber Security Consultancy services, including Risk Assessment, Review, Network and Computer Analysis, Digital Forensics and Information Audits. QinetiQ is unique in both the range of services it offers and its breadth and reach in the market space.

Overall Purpose of the Job:

• To drive the growth of our Cyber Security Consultancy business by leading multi-disciplinary security consultancy engagements into our key current and target clients.

Key Accountabilities:

• QinetiQ Security’s overall engagement with a defined set of clients;
• Identifying and closing new consultancy opportunities;
• The successful project delivery from virtual teams of consultants deployed on to a specific engagement; and
• The development and implementation of existing and new compelling Cyber security consultancy propositions that deliver high-value consultancy services to the market.

Principal Consultant's will be given delegated authority for the release of proposals to clients, in line with the Delegations Matrix and the principles contained within it.

Successful outcomes of this role:

• Satisfied clients with whom we enjoy an enduring relationship, and who would willingly recommend us to other organisations;
• An increase in operating profit margin in the Cyber Security Practice, and specifically an increase in project margin, reflecting an increased proportion of more higher value-adding consultancy work.

A Principal Consultant will be measured on a combination of new business won and programmes of work delivered; the emphasis between Winning and Delivering will vary between Consultants depending on the nature and maturity of the client relationships they are responsible for.

Challenges:

• The movement away from a series of point solution interventions (e.g. IA, Pen Testing) and into genuinely multi-disciplinary engagements;
• Clients’ perceptions that we are technical experts in very specific niches, and not capable of solving their unstructured business problems.

Person Specification:

• Respected and valued by both our clients and our own people alike
• Excellent client engagement and listening skills
• Energetic, enthusiastic and committed to making a difference for the business and for our clients
• Credibility in a relevant domain or technical discipline
• Ability to lead (sometimes virtual) teams of people
• A great communicator

Essential Education, Qualifications and Training required:

• First degree in a relevant subject and/or relevant security experience
• Appropriate qualifications and certifications specific to their domain (e.g. Degree, CCP, CISSP, 27001, CISM, CISA, Professional Membership(s))

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Demonstrable experience of winning and delivering consultancy engagements with clients in the field of cyber security
• A broad understanding of the issues and challenges facing current and potential clients (i.e. a broader appreciation than just their immediate area of specific technical expertise).

Essential Personal Qualities and Behavioural Requirements:

• Energy, tenacity, resilience
• Sound commercial acumen
• Proven ability to oversee and manage the work of other consultants
• Willingness to work away from normal base location for extended periods at client sites, possibly overseas
