This is an excellent opportunity for you to develop your career and work for one of the industry's foremost tunnelling and civil engineering companies, based from our Derby office. Our projects are diverse, technically challenging and always absorbing and include new shafts, utility tunnels, tunnel repairs and refurbishment, new build/ replacement and refurbishment of footbridges and rail station platforms, under track crossings (UTX's), depot expansions and temporary works design. Requirements: knowledge, skills and experience required: * Must be a chartered engineer preferably with MICE or MIStructE * Must have design and build experience within the rail industry * Be familiar with UK standards and equivalent Eurocodes * Sound understanding of CDM Regulations, specifically the designer's requirements and risk assessment process * Sound understanding of the requirements regarding the risk assessment process * Must have excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing * Ability to build long lasting relationships with clients and develop new business opportunities * Project management capability and ability to manage small projects * Experience in the CRE role * Ability to interface with other disciplines Role Summary: Reporting to the Technical Director, you will be accountable for leading and/or supporting civil/structural designs for our tunnelling / underground spaces sector and will be capable of running projects and developing client relationships. Duties & Responsibilities Will Include: * Leading a team of engineers and technicians * Detailed design and analysis of new and existing structures in concrete, steel, timber and masonry. * Project management from feasibility to detailed design, including all technical, programme and cost monitoring * Ensuring that design, assessments and checking of designs are in accordance with the current Standards, Codes of Practice and Best Practice * Review/checking/approval of designs, assessments and calculations in accordance with quality procedures * Preparation of risk assessments and full compliance with CDM * Coordination of work undertaken by external sub-contractors and design checkers * Client liaison and management * Mentoring junior engineers and developing their technical skills Remuneration & Benefits: COWI UK Limited is an equal opportunities employer and we believe in rewarding our staff for their commitment and hard work you will receive a basic salary that will match your skills and experience, coupled with: 28 days holiday plus bank and public holidays Private health care scheme Life assurance (4 x salary) Pension scheme with generous employer contribution Cycle to work scheme Childcare vouchers Flexible working arrangements (details available on request) Long service award of extra pension contributions paid for by the Company and one extra holiday day after 5 years of service Employee ownership through COWI share programme
