Opportunity for an ambitious and entrepreneurial Principal/Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Building Performance Engineering (BPE) team in Plymouth (PL7 5BP) and become part of our thriving, award winning and highly successful consultancy.

Locally, we have an experienced multidisciplinary team of circa 35 staff (Infrastructure, Structures, Buildings Services and Geo), working from a converted Barn in Plympton, at the foot of Dartmoor (just north of the A38 and we have plenty of free on site car parking).

The person we entrust this role to will be skilled in running a design team and have experience in a client-facing role as well as demonstrating determination and commitment to work winning and commercial performance. They will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the highest standards of technical quality and play a focal part in shaping the department through innovation and creativity.

Overview:

This is predominantly a technical and project management role, potentially with skills required to line-manage contracts on a technical and financial capacity and for team co-ordination. You will be:

* Responsible for the project management, financial, team coordination, design quality and profitable delivery of own projects, and input to wider team
* Commercially responsible for projects under their management and support team to meet financial KPI’s
* Client management expertise and proficient in securing work from existing clients or ability to seek out new opportunities

Other responsibilities:

* Timely reporting of project/office financial information to contribute to meeting budget at team level
* Project setup, briefing and take ownership of IMS implementation including proactive change control and lessons learnt for project list. Also includes interface and management of input from other divisions
* Checking output of more junior engineers and coaching them to facilitate their technical progress
* Project set up, briefing and take ownership of IMS implementation including proactive change control and lessons learnt for project list. Also includes interface and management or input from other divisions
* Checking output of more junior engineers and coaching them to facilitate their technical progress
* Working with other divisions to maximise efficiencies including cross-selling, shared initiatives, client management and lessons learnt

Core job functions:

* Project delivery, including overseeing input from others
* Input to invoicing and debt chasing, management of WIP and forward workload/resource planning for team
* Attendance at day to day client meetings and co-ordinating others to ensure appropriate representation at client, design team and site meetings
* Typically a professional member or working towards full membership with a relevant institution (e.g. CIBSE)
