About the Role:

Thales UK have an exciting opportunity for an motivated and talented Portfolio Lead Project Controller to work at our Cheadle site (Greater Manchester) to work within Maritime Mission Systems, aligned to one of our current largest programmes. This team dedicated to working on some of the next generation, cutting edge sonar technologies, delivering to both customers in the UK and worldwide.

Reporting to the Programme Manager and member of the Programme Core Team, the key element of the role is to ensure that the Programme operates as “one team” and consistency is achieved and maintained across the various programme activities including schedule, cost and risk/opportunity management. On behalf of the Programme Direct and the PMO Sector Lead, this individual will carry out an integral role, responsible for the programmatic drumbeat and all associated governance aspects in order to ensure successful delivery.

The role will require an individual who can develop excellent relationships with varied and multiple stakeholders, across geographic boundaries, in order to ensure the success of the Programme. It will demand an individual with highly developed networking and influencing skills that can ensure Thales delivers the right Programme outcomes at the right time and to the right cost and quality.

This role presents excellent opportunities for development in a multitude of directions within PMO and the wider Project Management Team.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

* Undertake the activities that will ensure the successful delivery of the Programme. This typically includes the following:
* Support Project Director/Programme Manager for establishing and controlling the drumbeat and governance for the overall Programme;
* Be accountable of the monitoring/control of WBS, schedule, risk register, and EAC with associated matrix within the programme;
* Provides deep analysis of the programme schedule and ensures it is robust, coherent and optimised;
* Ensure a robust risk and opportunity management process is embedded in the programme, supporting the work package leaders as required;
* Responsible (in liaise with WPs) for putting in place appropriate metrics to ensure robust monitoring and control for all elements;
* Supports the Customer Facing Manager in particular to prepare and present customer schedule;
* Responsible for configuration control of the Programmatic Baseline and data management;
* Lead the PMO team assigned to the Programme;
* Contributing to preparing Programme Reviews;
* Under direction of the PMO Sector Lead, ensure that best practice PMO processes and controls are adopted throughout the Programme;
* Providing coaching and guidance on the above best practises implementation to the Management first line and to all the Work Package Managers;
* Ensure a “Lessons Learned” culture is embedded within the Programme.

The role will also involve occasional ad-hoc duties that are not listed above but are necessary to respond to the needs of the business. These ad-hoc duties will be consistent with the nature of a leadership position within Thales.

We are looking for an individual with some of the following key credentials:

* An extensive track record of PMO for complex Programmes in contexts relevant to the business unit (i.e. defence, aerospace, engineering)
* An extensive track record of building strong relationships with key stakeholders and leading in complex environments;
* Working in a complex, multidisciplinary, multi-site organisation;
* Evidence of the ability to provide coaching and development for less-experienced team members;
* Comprehensive understanding of generic processes and techniques used to schedule Programme activities (WBS, OBS, milestones, dependencies , EVM);
* Comprehensive experience and understanding of the Programme Management process (including Change Control, Risk Management and Information Management);
* Comprehensive experience and knowledge of the Programme life cycle through delivery of Development, Implementation, Closure and Support activity;
* Experience of working across boundaries, best practice supply chain and finance functions;
* Experience with Primavera applications, MS Project, Metrics etc.
