About the role
The Port Automation Engineer will define the operational and functional aspects of automated terminals and assist our clients in their choice of manufacturer or TOS provider.
You are likely to be in a similar role in a consultancy setting. You will be experienced in defining the operational and functional requirements for automated terminals and providing advice to port and terminal operators on the choice of manufacturer or operating systems. You will analyse the business requirements through client engagement and carry out design and selection for software and hardware needs for the terminal, supporting the client in procurement and contracting with suppliers and ensuring effective integration of solutions into clients’ operating systems.
To achieve the ambitious targets we have set for Smart Ports, we are recruiting for a technical leader in port automation. You will work closely with other thought leaders in our Maritime consultancy team, as well as with the Management Team to develop and implement the business plan around the terminal automation opportunity. Key to the role is to bring theory to practice, so applying knowledge in projects from day one. Role objectives include:
* Develop the business plan for terminal automation and simulation
* Be the technical lead for terminal automation - leading and contributing to projects
* Challenge and keep the business up to date with future trends and thinking
* Coordinate and contribute to the development of Maritime’s Smart Ports strategy
* Build and lead a team of specialists
You are a team player with solid technical competence. You are likely to be in a similar role in a (niche) consultancy setting or working for a port or terminal operator. You have a wide professional network, which should include: port and terminal operators, equipment suppliers and consultants. You are experienced in planning and defining the operational and functional requirements for automated terminals and providing advice to port and terminal operators on the choice of manufacturer or operating systems, including brownfield projects. You will analyse the business requirements through client engagement and carry out design and selection for software and hardware needs for the terminal, supporting the client in procurement and contracting with suppliers and ensuring effective integration of solutions into clients’ operating systems. You understand the business opportunity for terminal automation services in a consultancy setting.
