Planning Consultant - Minerals and Waste (Principal or Technical Director), UK

Office Location: Manchester

Salary: Competitive salary, comprehensive benefits inc healthcare, pension, life cover

Discipline team: Planning

Job Description

SLR has an enviable reputation supporting our clients successfully deliver Minerals and Waste related projects within the UK and internationally. We now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Planner to oversee expansion of our services with a particular focus on the northern half of England albeit with the flexibility to work on projects throughout the UK and Internationally.

This role is placed at a Principal Consultant or Technical Director and would suit someone looking to take that next step to build and lead their own team from a solid network of regional contacts and successful project consent experience. Wider knowledge and previous involvement in built environment planning and effective re-use of land after restoration would be a strong addition to your experience as we also rapidly expand this aspect of SLR’s planning activities.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with other team members to capitalise on our extensive client list and drive the company’s Minerals and Waste Planning offer into the northern half of the country.

You will be a proven work winner in your own right, with an appetite to unlock and develop new and existing client opportunities and relationships. You will also play a key role in evolving the wider planning team by developing and monitoring junior planning staff.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of providing clear, problem solving, outcome focussed and successful advice on a range of planning topics to a variety of clients. You should be experienced in providing the lead advice in client meetings and presentations, built on a strong working knowledge of planning legislation. Experience of project management and co-ordinating the inputs from technical specialists will be an advantage and lends itself to the delivery of an integrated offer to clients. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

Whilst your focus will be on Minerals and Waste related projects, we undertake planning and environmental services across a wide range of sectors; therefore you will ideally have experience in and practice across all of these and will play an important part in regional business development.

PERSON SPEC – SUMMARY

Suitable candidates should be able to demonstrate:

* Demonstrable consultancy based Planning experience focusing on the Minerals and Waste sector, and excellent knowledge of local planning legislation
* Business development, team management/growth and project delivery expertise gained within Planning Consultancy
* Relevant RTPI accredited degree and full RTPI membership
