We run an exciting 12 month placement where you are given an opportunity to work in a role and on real projects making a difference in both your team and the company as a whole. You will received on the job training and take part in a structured Training & Development Programme designed to give the skills and competencies required for future graduate roles.

The role of the Stress & Dynamics Engineer Placement will be to assist in the design and development of new and existing variants of V12, V16 & V18 diesel and gas engines up to 4060 horsepower and power generation sets up to 4MWe used in applications such as mining, locomotive, marine and power generation.

Responsibilities:

*

Work together with designers and development engineers to ensure current and new products have good reliability.

*

Provide clear direction to designers by carrying out hand calculation, finite element stress analysis, multi body simulation and component life prediction using in house code and commercial software.

*

Develop and assist implementation of test plans for experimental mechanics

*

Document analysis work and procedures as Cummins Technical Reports

The role will provide excellent experience for your CV and an introduction to a simulation engineering role in industry. A mentor will be there to guide you through your placement year. The following training will be provided;

*

Training in Corporate systems such as Oracle, and familiarisation with other business software

*

Coaching to enable the development of other business skills.

*

4 x 1 day workshops through an external training provider: Adapting to Professional Environments, Effective Communication and Presentation Skills, Team Work, Customer Care.

*

Internal Placement and Graduate Networks

*

Cummins standard training for new employees: Engine build awareness, introduction to six sigma and other professional practices.

*

One-dimensional concept analysis through to detailed fatigue predictions

*

Finite Element Structural and Multibody Dynamics Analysis using ANSYS and GT-Suite

*

Computational Fluid Dynamics

*

Engineering Software programming (Matlab, VBA & Ansys)

*

3D CAD modeling using Creo

*

IMechE mentor provided to work towards profesional status via MPDS scheme.

Qualifications

Skills and experience required

Skills:

*

Preferred Discipline: Mechanical Engineering/Automotive Engineering.

*

Self-motivated and able to manage own projects.

*

Attention to detail.

*

Interest in knowing how things work.

*

Ability to work and communicate with cross-functional groups.

*

Practical approach to support technical investigation and evaluation.

*

A sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles and calculations, with the ability to apply them.

*

A keen interest in internal combustion engines and power generation.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

College, university, or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject required.
