We run an exciting 12 month placement where you are given an opportunity to work in a role and on real projects making a difference in both your team and the company as a whole. You will received on the job training and take part in a structured Training & Development Programme designed to give the skills and competencies required for future graduate roles.
Located within the Daventry manufacturing site, the Daventry Technical Centre is responsible for the design and development of new and existing variants of V12, V16 & V18 diesel and gas engines up to 4060 horsepower used in applications such as mining, locomotive, marine and power generation.
A split role including both product validation and design tasks.
Working with Mechanical Validation Engineers on Investigation / Development and Validation of mechanical components or systems.
Work includes problem definition, data analysis, procurement, bench and engine testing.
Develop designs from concept through to fully detailed, production drawings with supporting documentation (tolerance analysis, bill of material, technical reports etc.) for engine components and accessories
Experience will be gained in engine system problem solving, performance, design, component investigation, test cell operation, data gathering / processing, recognising/reporting discrepancies in results, engine test development and project management.
Cummins standard training for new employees: Engine build awareness, introduction to six sigma and other professional practices.
Familiarisation and working with established development practices and procedures.
Department mentor provided to help guide / track progress throughout the placement.
IMechE mentor provided to work towards professional status via MPDS scheme.
Skills and experience required
Self-motivated and able to manage own projects.
Attention to detail.
Interest in knowing how things work.
Ability to work and communicate with cross-functional groups.
Practical approach to support technical investigation and evaluation.
A sound understanding of Mechanical Engineering principles and calculations, with the ability to apply them.
A keen interest in internal combustion engines.
Familiar and competent with MS Office software.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
Preferred Discipline: Mechanical Engineering/Automotive Engineering.
