What is the purpose of the role?
This is an exciting opportunity to really make a difference in one or our most critical roles within Waste Treatment, our front line performance manager. You will have two key accountabilities; firstly to manage your people and secondly to manage your process. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and improvement of sewage treatment processes in a particular area through the effective leadership and direction of resources. Activities will include the monitoring of operational processes against set performance and expenditure targets, quality standards and statutory requirements. You will work closely with technicians in the team to drive a culture of performance, continuous improvement and engagement into which behavioural safety is embedded. In addition to the below accountabilities, the level 6 performance manager will be appointed to any site that has digestion (gas systems), and / or a PE (population equivalent) of >180,000 and / or a site of a complex nature.

What will this role involve?
People: To manage the team to achieve agreed objectives and provide strong leadership aligned with Thames Waters' values.
Treatment Process Optimisation and Compliance: You will be responsible for the smooth operation of our plants, ensuring compliance is managed across the area to the best cost for the future.
Health and Safety: To ensure that a culture of behavioural safety is embedded and that the health, safety and wellbeing of employees and other affected persons are top priority.
Finance: To be responsible for the financial performance of the area, understanding how the area is performing relative to budget and ensuring that costs are controller and efficiencies are identified and implemented.
What are we looking for?
Do you have previous experience managing operational staff? Are you focused on continuous improvement? Do you have significant process management experience and knowledge with strong skills in operations, engineering, finance and H&S legislation? If so, this may be the role for you. We are seeking an experienced people-manager with a proven track record of engaging and developing their team; ideally with field-based members. You will be used to taking the lead and achieving results ideally within a similar industry, with a strong focus on and good working knowledge of health and safety. You will have experience managing the operational budget, with good financial management skills and strong commercial acumen, with excellent organisational and risk management skills. Ideally, your technical knowledge of electrical and mechanical principals will be underpinned by a background in wastewater however, this is not essential. You will need to be competent in using IT equipment/systems and be able to interpret complex excel spreadsheets. You will be required to complete NEBOSH is you do not already have it and complete COTC and APD if applicable for your sites. Due to the nature of this role, a full valid driving licence is needed.

We have a number of exciting roles based across the Newbury, Chertsey, Camberley and Bracknell area. We are offering a salary of up to £45,000.00 depending on experience and qualifications. Our excellent salary package includes a competitive contributory pension and a wider benefits scheme which includes an annual pay review, season ticket loans and loyalty awards for continuous service plus many more. Participation in a 24/7 Out of Hours Standby rota may be required after a suitable period of training and assessment, for which you will receive an additional payment.
