An opportunity has arisen within the team that work on the optical systems engineering, optical product development and procurement for Earth Observation instrumentation.As a Payload Optical Engineer you will be a key member of the team.

The successful candidate will work across a range of activities including:

Lead and/or review detailed optical analyses
Interpret customer requirements and define optical system/subsystems architectures for spacecraft instrumentation
Work with subcontractors and suppliers to establish realistic requirements at system level and critically review their designs and analyses,
Contribute to model philosophy and Assembly, Integration & Verification planning at all levels
Prepare test reports, other documentation and participate in formal reviews to ensure successful equipment delivery
Coordinate and work with other engineering disciplines to develop robust technical solutions for the space environment
Work closely with the project manager, suppliers, management & wider teams to stay in control of the schedule, cost and any technical, production or resourcing issues.

You will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance to undertake the role.

Qualifications and/or Skills:

Degree in relevant degree such as Engineering or Physics/Engineering or related field
Experience in hardware development
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Able to work in a multi-disciplinary systems environment
Good customer facing skills including presentation skills
A good understanding of optical design, analyses methods and optical tolerances
Knowledge of fabrication and testing techniques for optical components and systems
Experience with relevant optical coatings and materials for the space environment - Desirable

Previous Experience:

Demonstrable optical analysis, design and development
Systems Engineering - Desirable
Subcontract technical management - Desirable
ESA project experience; Matlab; CodeV/Zemax; ASAP/FRED; DOORS;Knowledge of ISO Optical Design and ECSS standards - Desirable
