JOB DESCRIPTION

Join a team that designs, develops and integrates highly complex systems for space within Honeywell Aerospace. As an Optical Design, you will work in a small cross-functional team of Mechanical and Systems engineers collaborating on the design, development and implementation of space science instruments, technology and missions. The developments include a broad spectrum of optical and opto-mechanical elements, such as mirrors and mounts, to critical subsystems such as fore optics and detector assembly, and to full instruments with electronics and mechanisms will need to be assembled, integrated, and tested.

JOB ACTIVITIES

· Able to evaluate and understand customer requirements and interfaces towards the development of concepts and layouts of optical instrumentation.

· Develop unique optical design concepts and support opto-mechanical design efforts, e.g. optical mounts, flexures and structures with critical constraints that meet the demanding requirements of space applications.

· Perform detailed tolerance analyses to support the optical and opto-mechanical design

· Analyze the thermal and stray light impacts on optical system performance

· Using your good understanding of manufacturing processes and DFMA and design for support the assembly integration and test of optical components, subsystems and instruments.

· Through good communication skills and writing prepare technical proposals and support the generation of cost estimates and project schedules and presentations at design reviews and customer meetings.

YOU MUST HAVE

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or Applied Science

· Experience in optical engineering

WE VALUE

· Advanced degree in engineering or applied science

· Optical system design experience is highly valued

· Experience with electro-optical design aspects such as radiometric analysis, detector performance, thermal infrared systems design, and stray light analysis

· Optical design and analysis software such as Zemax, Code V, and LightTools

· Numerical simulation skills and fluency with mathematical or system modeling tools (e.g. MATLAB, Python)

· The demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with engineers, scientists, and technicians from multiple disciplines

· Individuals who are self-motivated and able to work with little supervision, and who consistently take the initiative to get things done

· Energetic and highly organized.

· Passion to develop solutions and trouble shoot problems.

· Experience developing hardware for the space, vacuum and or similar harsh environments.

· Background in the development of small compact, highly capable optical components.

· Experience developing designs for high volume production.
