What is the purpose of the role?
Reporting directly to the area operations manager, you will lead, support and develop a local management team, ensuring maintenance of the Thames Water Ring Main, associated pumping stations and a number of smaller booster stations and transmission tunnels across London. You will lead your team to ensure that we consistently meet both internal standards and our regulatory performance measures including health and safety, asset health, customer satisfaction and drinking water quality. A critical part of the role is managing the Ring Main inspection programme which involves isolation and inspection of each tunnel section every 10 years. This requires both excellent technical understanding and stakeholder management.

What will this role involve?
The successful candidate will be managing a small team of performance and technical managers and a wider team of technicians.
You will ensuring the safe delivery of our monthly planned operational and maintenance workload, high quality asset and site management, including being a good neighbour to our local customers.
You will ensure statutory obligations are met at each of our sites and support with planning and delivery of capital projects.
You will manage an operational budget and be expected to have significant input to developing short and longer term investment plans.
You will enhance existing relationships with our scientific services, system operations, operational excellence and asset planning deliver.
Our successful operations managers are organised and efficient, great people managers and can work under pressure/time constraints.
No one day is the same in the life of an operations manager and you must be able to effectively delegate and prioritise tasks with your team and align work in your area with our strategic objectives.
You will be responsible for the development of your team members, and must ensure that they are consistently performing against both internal and external targets.
You will be expected to prepare reports and presentations for senior managers and key stakeholders, so a keen eye for detail is a must to be a successful candidate in this role.

What are we looking for?
Strong technical aptitude and experience in managing maintenance of industrial plant. Strong people skills are essential for this role, and ideally experience of people management. Relevant health & safety qualifications (NEBOSH general certificate or equivalent) and experience of applying these in an operational environment is desirable. We are looking for someone with excellent organisational skills, keen eye for detail and demonstrable ability of managing workload under pressure. Previous industry experience would be very beneficial. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills is essential and you must be adaptable and quick thinking.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based at Merton Depot in Colliers Wood, South London. This role will involve visiting different sites so you must be willing to travel and hold a full clean driving licence however there is an opportunity to have a company van or car allowance. We are offering a salary of £37,400 - £50,600 depending on skills and experience. Our excellent salary package includes a competitive contributory pension and a wider benefits scheme which includes an annual pay review, season ticket loans and loyalty awards for continuous service. There may be a requirement to participate in an out of hours rota approximately 1 in 10.
