The Opportunity

Join us as an Operational Development Engineer who is responsible for supporting Operate the Plant Manager and Operational Documentation Lead with the delivery of the Operating Documentation, in accordance with the overall project schedule. You will also perform procedures and technical reviews to ensure that the delivery of HPC meets operational safety & performance requirements. As an experienced Nuclear Engineer, you will mentor and help future operating recruits in their development.

Pre-Operations is split into the following programmes of work aligned to meet the current needs of the business:

* Asset Management, covering equipment reliability, management of work, technical standards, maintenance strategy, Plant Service Inspection/In Service Inspection.

* Operate the Plant, covering operational procedures, technical specification development, plant availability, training specification, fuel route and the dry store.

* Operational Capability, in charge of staffing strategy and resourcing approach, competency development strategy, simulator training and instructors recruitment, being the intelligent customer to Nuclear Skill Alliance.

* Technical and Safety, covering Radiation Protection arrangements, Emergency Preparedness, Fire Safety, Technical Coordination.

Each programme will be delivered by a team of Operational Development staff led by a Programme Manager, working with stakeholders in other areas of the Project.

The Person

Day to Day you will:

• Plan, monitor and manage the activities, risks, and associated requirements relevant to the Pre-Operations activities assigned to him/her.

• Assess the design and equipment contract information for certain systems to ensure they will deliver our aims of enhanced safety and performance during the operational phase.

• Provide input into the development of standards, procedures and arrangements which support safe and reliable plant operations.

• Maintain interfaces (technical & functional) with other HPC departments (such as Design Authority, Owner’s Engineering, Construction Planning, Safety), Edvance and DPN to ensure that future operation requirements are fully integrated into the HPC design in a safe and sustainable manner.

• Provide input to the management of Technical Issues with the potential to impact future plant availability.

• Research operating experience from the wider nuclear industry applicable to the HPC project and promote its use and application to achieve World Class performance

• Maximise effective use of time and personal ability; work flexibly within own range of competence; undertake the appropriate training and development to extend skills and abilities to meet the needs of the business.

The Skills

Essential

* Experience of developing and reviewing technical information.

* A proactive analytical thinker with an ability to work with minimal supervision and on their own initiative.

* Good understanding of quality arrangements required in UK nuclear regulated environment.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

* Excellent organisational and IT skills

* Strong commercial awareness

Desirable

* Degree qualified (or equivalent) in an appropriate Engineering or Science discipline

* Experience of working within a project organisation.

* Demonstrable experience in nuclear or similarly regulated processes

* Knowledge and experience of light water pressurised reactors.

* Experience in the development and delivery of training and an understanding of the systematic approach to training (SAT) process

* An understanding of human performance error prevention tools.
