About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an OFFSHORE SECTION ENGINEER to join our Major Projects team to work in Bristol with our Hinkley Point C Team.

Role Purpose:

Working with our specialist Marine Contractors and Client you will control sections of the work in relation to the offshore shafts installation work scope, associated to the Hinkley Point C marine and tunneling project.

The offshore shaft installation works includes offshore heavy lifting, pile installation, large diameter drilling, grouting works, and underwater operations.

What you'll be doing

As an OFFSHORE SECTION ENGINEER, you will have the following accountabilities:

* Technical interface with project Suppliers, Contractors and Client
* Review designs of permanent and temporary works
* Produces Method Statements and Risk Assessments and undertakes periodic reviews
* Review and assist in the development of Sub-Contractor Method Statements and Risk Assessments for
* Prepares and raises Temporary Works Briefs, following up to ensure timely implementation
* Completes Accident Book and associated reports as required. Able to undertake incident
* Undertakes and mentors less experienced staff in safety audits
* Planning and coordination of marine works
* Carry out setting out
* Actively uses the Specification for reference and coaches junior team members in using the Spec
* Produces Activity Control Plans / Inspection and Test Plans and obtains approval
* Maintains a comprehensive filing system of quality records aligned to the Project Quality
* Identifies and raises Technical Queries (RFIs) with possible solutions.

Who we're looking for

It is essential that you will have the following qualities and experience:

* Experience in marine construction or offshore industries
* Strong knowledge of construction process in one or more of the following areas: marine piling, large diameter drilling, lifting operations, grouting, surveying.
* Review designs of permanent and temporary works
* Review and assist in the development of Sub-Contractor Method Statements and Risk Assessments for offshore works
* Relevant Engineering Degree (Civils. Mechanical or Coastal)

You also ideally will have the following qualities and experience

* Understands Permit System and actively raises Permits to Work
* Is able to identify potential hazards and is proactive in implementing actions and controls
* Good level of Environmental Awareness
* Able to resolve issues with control and information provided
* Able to identify issues on drawings and suggest construction solutions
* A good understanding of Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) survey systems
* Able to carry out complex setting out
* Actively drives the production of quality ITP and handover documentation and information
* Strong understanding of construction tolerances
* Awareness of Specification and other Contract documents
* Understands and can use the information provided in the Stage Programme, disseminating this to the team.
