Job Title: Network Outage Planning – Team Manager (Control Room)

Location: Portsmouth

Salary: Up to £56,671 depending on skills and experience + annual bonus

Permanent | Full Time Hours | 37 hours per week

Our Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Network Outage Planning – Team Manager to join our team, based in Portsmouth, managing a team of skilled colleagues in our southern Distribution Control Centre.

The Distribution Control Centre is at the heart of the activities on the Distribution Network; the control room monitors the SSEN network and manages networks operating up to 132kV. The control team work to identify faults on the network and co-ordinate field staff to resolve these from the Distribution Control Centre as well as safely allow works on the network to keep it running smoothly. The control centre is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

This role holds responsibility for overseeing managing the approval of network outages on our distribution network and ensuring any training requirements are met to fulfil the network. In addition, you’ll manage the work flow through the EHV control desks and offer real time advice to the control engineers. As a key member of the management team, we’ll also look to you to provide advice to system planning on the future development of the company’s distribution network. You’ll also manage a team of skilled engineers, including work load management, sickness absence, performance management and coaching.

In your role, you’ll also host and attend meetings with external parties such as National Grid and other regulatory bodies. In addition, you’ll liaise daily with Delivery Managers, ensuring smooth running of our network and collaboration across the department.

Your Skills and Experience

To ensure you get the most from your role, we ask that you have experience working on the network, with excellent knowledge of the industry we work in. You’ll also have a qualification in Electrical Engineering, to a minimum HNC level or similar engineering discipline. You’ll be highly organised and have a strategic mind-set with the ability to act quickly in response to a change in priorities. Due to the nature of the role, you should also have a keen eye for detail, and be able to move at a fast pace to tight deadlines. Previous team management experience is also required.

When a fault occurs, it is our responsibility to respond to the fault, and dispatch our skilled teams to fix it as quickly as possible.
