Johnson Matthey currently have an opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join their maintenance team in Royston, working within our Platinum Group Metal Services Business.
Working within the Maintenance Team and reporting to the Maintenance Lead, the purpose of this role is to perform mechanical engineering tasks necessary to ensure safe, compliant and efficient operation of all primary and auxiliary production equipment and utility support systems, sustaining operations at the Royston R&CE site. Much of your time will be spent on mechanical tasks, including reactive and preventative maintenance tasks, but will also include minor project work and assisting in additional maintenance duties where priorities require.

Platinum Group Metal Services (PGMS) is one of four businesses within the Efficient Natural Resources Sector that manages, distributes, refines and recycles precious metals and fabricates products using precious metals and related materials. The business unit also manufactures platinum group metals, minor metal compounds, organometallics and fine metal powders for high technology applications, as well as providing a range of management services for platinum group metals.
Key responsibilities
* Provides a skilled execution of Planned, Reactive & Corrective Mechanical maintenance activities to ensure the ongoing reliability of equipment across the plant.
* Delivers effective problem solving and mechanical fault diagnosis skills, adhering to identified work priorities to ensure that customers and stakeholders are supported in their daily operational needs.
* Undertakes occasional plant modification work to help enhance plant safety and improve efficiency.
* Conducts Inspections, testing, calibration, adjustments and monitoring tasks as required to maintain efficient plant and build-in equipment reliability.
* Responsible for updating the CMMS with work progress and demanding spares as required for work tasks and/or to maintain critical stock levels.
* Cooperates and collaborates with other team members to continually drive our proactive engineering programme; participates in failure investigations and identifies reliability issues within the plant.
* Provides support to the project team at initial design stages to offer advice on the correct selection of plant and equipment to ensure improved levels of future plant reliability and maintainability.
* Interprets technical drawings for planning, executing and specifying material to support job duties.
* Responsible for the completion of relevant departmental administrative requirements such as: time sheets, work orders (WMO), stores purchase requisitions to ensure concise work history and financial accountability.
Are you the ideal candidate?
You will have/be:
* Competed a recognised Mechanical Engineering qualification;
* Experience in a large-scale manufacturing/chemical industry within a maintenance function;
* Experience of working with Profibus networking would be an advantage;
* Exposure to a LEAN approach to manufacturing would be desirable;
* Chemical/COSHH awareness.
Due to the nature of this role applicants must be non-smokers and have been free from nicotine products for at least three months.
