Profile

As an Apprentice working with the Naval Architect and Marine Engineer team you will be based at Haslar, Gosport. The team consist of approximately 40 engineers and has expertise in a wide range of different areas within the marine sector.

The work will be predominately office based with periods spent supporting experiments conducted in the various facilities at Haslar. During the apprenticeship you will typically be working on projects relating to the maritime industry and you will gain significant experience of design methodologies, 3D modelling, fabrication & production methods, experimental practices, data analysis and report writing.

Duties & Responsibilities

- Carry out calculations under supervision using classical hand calculation methods and bespoke software tools.
- Produce 3D models and drawings to support numerical analysis or physical tests.
- Provide support to the Task lead during the planning and set up phase of physical trials.
- Act as part of the experiment team supporting physical trials.
- Assist in analysis of large datasets using MS Excel, Matlab and other specialist software.
- Contribute to the production of written reports and presentations.
- Provide support to Design Reviews and other project based meetings.
- Ensure tasks are completed to agreed milestones, budgets, and to a high standard.
- Have a flexible can do attitude.

To apply for the role you MUST meet the following criteria;
- Have attained, your first year of engineering i.e. College etc.
- Achieved a minimum of Grade 4 (C) in GCSE Maths & English
- Be willing to learn, and have demonstrated an aptitude for learning at pace working on NVQ
- Have a keen interest in technology and engineering

These restrictions mean that you must hold full British citizenship and obtain the right to stay and work within the UK. Restrictions may also mean that any dual or previous nationalities held can affect the roles in which you can perform within QinetiQ.
